ParticipantI really don’t think this is buying them anything in the end.
competition is good but this is ridiculous.
You’re only going to buy so much (well at least I can control myself) so once your done shopping then what.

ParticipantSo when the heck are they expecting everyone to line up ?
The night before T-day ?
Yea this trend really sucks they need to stop it.
Soon they will want me to come in the office the day after T-Day, after all I should have got my shopping done on T-Day.

That’s the problem right. $15/hr sounds like a good plan until you realize that all the costs in the system will go up. What you could buy with $8/hr is the same amount of stuff you can buy with $15/hr once the system adjusts to it.
That’s assuming the top end moves proportionately. The problem is $8/hr is really externalizing the real costs of the products that are provided with $8/hr labor.
It’s exactly the same problem with legal labor and 99 cents/lb grapes.
The grapes aren’t really 99 cents, and the illegal labor isn’t really $5/hour.
The grapes are 99 cents plus $20,000 periodic and random ER bills and $14 Billion in school bonds.
And the labor is $5/hr plus the same $20,000 periodic ER bill and $14 billion in school bonds.
This and the fact the minimum wage does not keep up with inflation (congress does not give a cost of living raise to MW workers), if inflation goes up 5% a year minimum wage will most likely not see raise for several years And is probably 10 years behind at least currently IMO.

ParticipantWell I guess if you are doing the same Job for 10-20 years you should only get a raise every 10-15 years or so.

And we need to kick minimum wage to 15 an hour IMO.( I know I am alone in that one)
Unintended consequences: Businesses go under, or lay off. Upward pressure on all wages.. and costs.
I think this would just be making up for lost time/wages in this case.

You’re right, I haven’t been to China or India. I was just stating the population fact. Are you saying they’re not going to grow and increase energy consumption? Please educate me, since you’ve been to China recently. Are they in a huge bubble and their economy will crash and burn?
What I was saying is you are correct, in that our efforts at limiting climate change are ridiculously funny when you see the growth that is occurring in china that will simply just bury anything that we can accomplish in this regard. Will their economy crash and burn, hard to say, I do know they know how to print and spend money and that their real inflation is probably close to 10-15%, retiree’s used to get about 3-400 yuan a few years ago now get 3-4000 yuan a month. And public infrastructure spending is through the roof !!
We know how to print money, we just don’t know how to increases wage inflation, if we did our housing bubble would not have crashed just like theirs is not crashing.
Will they be able to continue ? I have no Idea.
I would also say, they seem to have a real hunger for foreign currency (you would think they have enough),
I honestly don’t think they keep tract of the currency they print and spend internally
They would love to buy all the raw materials they need using Yuan.November 7, 2012 at 11:05 AM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #754009The-Shoveler

Addressing climate issue? Yeah, I’ll believe it when we can get China and India to stop growing. Those two combined have a population that’s 10x us. Even if we cut our emission by 100%, if they increase their emission by 10%, we’ve gone nowhere.
Really I think If you have not been to China in the last few years to see it for yourself, you really don’t fully grasp it.

ParticipantMy 401K has been in neutral all year, so it looks the same this morning.
For selfish reasons I would like to see the big crash I have been expecting.
A 30 to 40% drop would give me a real nice entry point.
The Euro situation I think will start to come more into play now,Poor Merkel, can’t win the election and keep in the euro-zone ( a catch 22), Kind of funny if it were not so serious.

Broward county, once again, has voter issues in Florida. The Northeast has last minute voting exemptions that let people vote in the wrong jurisdiction.
I’m gonna offend people by saying this. But Florida has got to be one the most backassward states. I see more unbelievable “news” that comes out of Florida that almost any other state (besides California)…
Florida is the only State I have been in that I would choose to live if I could not make it in California. I would much rather live in say Miami than Phoenix.
And yes we need to get this over with tonight, At this point I don’t care really who wins anymore as long as somebody wins and this gets over with. And Trucks, why are they not making cheap small trucks anymore, I really need a new cheap small truck.

ParticipantWow, now that was uplifting !!
Makes me want to go down a beer or maybe a 12 pack.Although I could see the inflation thing and most likely Europe going down in flames, I seriously doubt things will get that bad in the U.S.A.
Besides I am still counting of SS to fund that small hut on a third world beach that has a fridge filled with cold beer.
I will add that I do think that they have been holding European union together with duct tape until after the elections and that the world is counting on the U.S.A. to get back in the game big time.
If the U.S.A is not in full recovery mode when the worlds real largest economy (The EU) goes down, things could get very messy. -
