ParticipantYou may not think this is related but I think it is.
Every 50-70 years the world goes through technology pyridine shifts, (guns, steamships, railroads, electricity, cars, airplanes, computers etc…)
These shifts always result in dislocations and disruptions.Right Now we are going through a new one “AUTOMATION”
This is the real story.The-Shoveler
ParticipantIf U.S. housing falters here, there is really not much back stop for the world economy at this point,
IMO,
What’s too painful will be avoided at all costs.
The cost of a world wide recession right now would be way more costly than I want to think about, but that’s just me.
That Said, Iran is still a real wild card right now, anyone read about rockets being volleyed, just saying,

ParticipantMaybe that was why the posturing Ben was doing today, talking about the need to for easier lending standards,
Maybe a move to get additional funding.
Housing is all about credit markets (well and inflation).November 14, 2012 at 2:07 PM in reply to: FHA loans going to “Rebound Buyers” just ~3 years out of foreclosure/BK #754700The-Shoveler
ParticipantThere are quite a few defense industry Jobs in the High desert area, Edwards and there is another experiment aircraft base in Victor Valley that I cannot remember the name of and FAA has a fair sized installation there as well.
Some do commute to the train station and ride the metro into L.A.
(quite a few Truck drivers make their base there).November 14, 2012 at 1:45 PM in reply to: FHA loans going to “Rebound Buyers” just ~3 years out of foreclosure/BK #754696The-Shoveler
ParticipantGuy’s your way off,
I have never seen Any Ghost towns in the IE…
Even in the most remote locations.
Some parts of “Moreno Valley” are fairly close to industrial centers of L.A. (city of industry etc..)
No further out than and probably a lot closer than say Carlsbad is QCOM.
Maybe 10-15 miles down the 60 at most.
Also there are quite a few Industries and warehouses distribution centers in this corridor so there are a lot of blue collar and white collar Jobs that do pay enough to easily afford this.
Not everyone has to commute to San Diego. There have been a lot of start-up IT firms in some of the better parts of the IE as well,
(HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!!) trust me it’s possible.November 14, 2012 at 1:44 PM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #754697The-Shoveler
ParticipantEurope having big protests today as the trade unions are sick of austerity,
Just wait until they try that here !!
IMO
Housing is not really that hot me thinks as well, it’s just Builders don’t want to sell at a loss so they are not building (or only building small tracts), and underwater home owners don’t want to sell at a loss.
This == no inventory.
I think there will need to be some serious inflation before we see a real boom.
When will that happen ? who knows.
Me I am still waiting for a 30-40% stock market decline before I want to start jumping in.The-Shoveler

Going over the cliff will just be a lot of pain with very little solution. From what I understand even If implemented everything we would still run a defect.

ParticipantEnding the game at this point is in no one’s interest.
The only hope is that science and progress can extend finite resources.
I think the above can go on but I am an optimist.
Wheres my Robot I need the lawn done and the house cleaned.

ParticipantUpdate Foxconn says they have no current plans to expand their operations in the U.S.A. at this time.

Participant“U.S. Treasury sells 70 percent of the debt it issues to the Federal Reserve ”
Personally I wish they would sell 100% to the fed,
That can easily be lost on some paper somewhere someday.
You think the Chinese are not doing the same thing ?
What happens in “insert your country” stays in “insert your country”.
Personally I think we can play the game a lot longer than anyone thinks.
They need us a lot “LOT” more than we need them.

Participant

Deeee-TROIT? Problem will be attracting intelligent engineering talent to a festering rat-hole like that.
My money would be on them expanding manufacturing in Mexico. Kinda like what sony does.
In fact, I believe some folks that work in the sony tv business locally were recently given two options…
1) Move to Japan
or
2) Move to Mexico.Because their U.S. positions were being eliminated.
There are a lot of Chinese speaking engineering types in L.A.
Not so sure about Mexico or Detroit,
I think it’s more about automation and cheap reliable electricity etc..

ParticipantOne thing I think this makes very obvious, raising minimum wage to a more living wage will NOT drive out manufacturing Jobs etc…
Also I think it will encourage more people to get off Gov. support and actually lower the real cost.

I just like the Idea of being able to get out A.S.A.P. when the shit hits the fan.
