Me I think if they raise the minimum wage that will lift from the bottom, I think that is starting to happen, too slow but its starting.

ParticipantYou are probably not married.
It takes me about between 10 and 15 minutes to get to town anyway (only 7 miles away).
But far enough to feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere.
There are very few light as well out here so the sky is incredible at night.

ParticipantI take a long Yoga Walk on the beach (well I just walk on the beach) all most every week.
Then I go home and have a beer in my back yard and look at the stars.
(I live in the middle of nowhere, so that’s maybe where I get my bias for not being around a lot of people).The-Shoveler
ParticipantThe Issue I have with laguna beach is its mostly a tourist trap near the beach area.
To Each their own but I kind of like the Idea of living a bit away from the beach and just going there when I want to.If I was to live right on the beach, I would like it to be a secluded area, probably too far away from the City to be convenient for most.

ParticipantNot yet but if I run into one I am sure I will try it LOL.
” frown if anything less than 10-12 hours daily”
I think this is why some millennials are slow to launch.
Something the boomers got used to I think. Not sure if a lot of millennials are ready for that reality.

I’m confused by the huge divergence between Engineers and Scientists. Culturally we’re both Smart Nerds.
Stress == obesity. Working for corepirate America instead of in academia or government is more stressful.
Corporate gigs in science are probably less stressful than corporate engineer jobs. My engineer friends who work for Qualcomm and Friends do seem to work a lot longer hours than those of us in Biotech. Most companies I’ve worked for in biotech pretty much encourage employees to take time during the day to exercise. Not sure if engineer-heavy companies do the same?
There probably is some difference between being glued to a computer all day and spending 50% of one’s time standing and walking in lab.
They bring you Cans of Jolt cola and frown if anything less than 10-12 hours daily LOL
Just kidding sort of.

ParticipantHmmmm Donuts LOL..
I am of the school that having a little fat is good, but to be honest one time I got really serious and lost a lot of weight, I felt great, I was taking the stairs three and four rungs a stride.
I need to get on that mind set again.
But as My friend says, I am storing up for when TSHTF and there no food LOL.The-Shoveler
ParticipantWell I just added smoking a Cuban cigar to my bucket list.

ParticipantAt some point the Ruble will stop Collapsing I would think.
I think Oil is being manipulated to boost the US and at the same time put the hurt on several bad actors.
But at the same time I think Oil will never really recover for a very long time as technology keeps making faster and faster inroads into two main area’s, Oil production and alternatives.

ParticipantLOL that sounds like something an American company would do.
But I will put that down as a possible outcome.

ParticipantThis is very much the situation in L.A. it’s a large county with many smaller cities (we call burbs). Many of which eventually over time develop and become Job centers.
West Lake, Valencia, Simi-Valley, Arcadia etc…The-Shoveler
ParticipantThose areas are still fairly close to Downtown (although definitely not bike distance) but compared to someplace like say Carlsbad they are fairly close.
I do think Carlsbad will become a Job center soon the way it’s looking (Large new business park and airport and all).

ParticipantI think Bush actually came closest to helicopter money when he mailed out refund checks to everyone, I think that was 2007 ?

ParticipantI know several people in our office who live in west L.A. (nice area actually), they describe a hellish commute on the 405 everyday to get to the burbs where the office is.
I can imagine something like that happening for the nicer burbs like Carlsbad etc… where they are building large office complexes someday (or maybe now).
