I never attend an auto show. I never like to look at what I can’t have π
It was actually my wife’s idea. I told her she was playing with fire. We went anyway… :)
Lol. I was talking about the cars. Really π I don’t like going to any car meet with a lot of cars that are unobtainable for me right now:)
ha either way I agree!
I think she wanted to go to the show because she’s due a new car next year. Trying to figure out what she wants.
My problem is that our garage is now full so if we get another car something has to go outside, because I’m not selling any of what we’ve got! For all except one, they are fully depreciated, cheap to insure, in excellent shape, and wouldn’t bring as much as they’re worth to me. So I’m keepin’ em.
We’ll see how this plays out.
I did get a touch of car fever at the show, but it is subsiding now.
Another thing I forgot to mention: the Mercedes display was huge and there were several models I didn’t even know existed. I can’t quite figure out how they are able to introduce so many models. BMW is getting to be the same way.
And have you seen the Mercedes GTS? Oh my lord is that gorgeous! That car is going to be a classic! They had a red one at the show and I fell in love…couldn’t sit in it but peering in the windows the interior is delicious. And it has a V8. And a $144K sticker. Maybe we’ll get one used in another decade. Save a ton of cash buying used.

svelteParticipantWe didn’t buy sheet today.
Spent the day at the LA Auto show, which has become our day-after-Tday tradition.
Bottom line: 124 is AWESOME…must own one before I die. They had 4 count’em 4 Giuilias on display…great vehicle…long live four leaf clovers!
XF was a let down XE was superb…X-PACE much better than expected in red…gaudy in bright blue.
New Camaro had dudes climbing all over it…much like GT-R did last year…
Eye candy was lacking…a few nice models but besides that only my wife attracting attention. π
svelteParticipantAfter helping my father with his rentals when we were college students, my wife and I decided we never wanted to own rental units. The crap my dad put up with was unbelievable. I actually ended up serving papers for him a few times. And the filth people left behind I wouldn’t have believed if I didn’t see it with my own eyes.
As it turns out now, if we had them I think relatives would have been wanting to rent if we owned one, then things would get even stickier if they fell behind on rent/maintaining the premises.
Reflecting on it all, I think I might have owned rentals if my wife wouldnt/couldnt work full time. Having her deal with the phone calls to rent and maintain the properties would be a way to have her earn money while being at home. As it is, she works full time like I do so neither of us want to deal with rental hassles.
svelteParticipantThis thing is gorgeous. Much better looking than the new Miata, IMO.
Looks better in white or black than in blue, which is a rare thing.
I’m not looking for speed in a small tossable sports car like this, so an Abarth version holds no appeal to me. Keep mine simple, tasteful and fun.
We’ll see how things go, but I could see one of these in my garage in 4-5 years…

There is no denying that an older car is more apt to break down…that’s what drives the decision, not the trappings of middle-class prosperity.
Older cars do break down more… but stranded on the road is an old urban legend more reminiscent of the 1980s.
Yeah, an urban legend.

“According to California Highway Patrol officers at the scene, a Nissan was stalled in the roadway when it was rear-ended by a second car. “
I rarely look at the car crashes in the news, but here is another death I stumbled across from a car broken on the freeway just a few months later.
Another Nissan – 2002-2006 Nissan Altima

svelteParticipantLife is so complicated. My lord.
What is the correct stance on immigration? On religion? On gun control? On freedom of speech? On mental illness?
They are so intertwined and so crucial.
We’ll feel our way forward not as a political party or a religion or a country. We’re going to have to feel our way forward as a planet. It’s not going to happen overnight. It’s not going to be easy.
But it is going to have to be.
My sympathies to the French. They’ve always treated my wife and I like royalty when we visit. How my heart cries out for you.
svelteParticipantWe were a Nielsen family for awhile, a long time ago.
Found it wasn’t worth the hassle and got out.
svelteParticipantOh, I’m not considering buying one. I’m not an SUV guy and don’t even care for the Model S – a few of its design features are not well done. That large screen is not well integrated into the dash, the fake grill on the nose, the rear is too flat. The car looks good in red, but other than that I think it’s kinda ungainly.
At least the Model X got rid of the fake grill.
I’m just trying to figure out if the press is giving Tesla a free ride on this apparent slip.

Until I came to Vegas I didn’t know that nightclubs (even the most popular one) use place holders on slow nights to make it look busy. They would comp tables to guests and friends. You have to arrive before a certain time, you get 1 free bottle and you have to tip the waitress. if the club suddenly gets busy with paying guests, you maybe asked to leave.
Then you’re a shill. That’s what they are called in Vegas, especially if you’re doing in it for a casino.
My grandfather was a shill for the Pioneer Club in Vegas during 1948.
svelteParticipantI take it you expect the market to go down, since you’re out?
svelteParticipantJust got around to peeking into this thread. Regarding the orginal post: I wouldn’t worry about your son at this point.
At that age, kids will do any number of things to fit in and realize in a few years how stupid that was. It’s great that you talk to him and make him think through what he was/is doing, but I wouldn’t come down hard on him. Yet.
svelteParticipant
Well, it’s official, according to the scale that was used at my doctor’s office. About 8 weeks since I started, I’m back down to my weight right before I entered freshman year in college back in 1992. 169.5lbs (although I think 8 lbs of that was from removing a colon). Anyway, I think I’m in better shape now then I was back in 1992, because back then, I didn’t do much in terms of weights or cardio.
I haven’t had to drastically change my diet, since I was already eatting pretty healthy. I’ve been trying to run everyday at noon, and also in the evening. And I do very light weights every morning and in the evening too.
I think the running really helped A LOT in burning of my calories. Furthermore, I don’t feel as sluggish during the day right after lunch, and sleep much better at night. And interestingly, I’m not as hungry as I use to be when I wasn’t as active. I guess it’s helping speed up my metabolism too.
Now that I’m use to this routine, I can’t imagine going back to not being active. It just feels weird if I can’t run during noon. So I’ve been scheduling my meetings around my run time. Lol.
I think I need to use slightly heavier weights now to bulk up just a bit. I have a small frame and look scrawny sort of.
Congrats flu. Proud of you man!
