actually, putting John Kelly in as Chief of Staff was probably the best thing he’s done. Kelly has a real chance at getting the WH operating properly, as proof by his first action being firing Scaramucci.
The two wild cards are whether Trump will continue to listen to him, and whether Kelly will have any real power over Trump’s son and stepson. I’m betting ‘no’ on all counts, but I could certainly be surprised.
I bet Kelly has had enough by December.
svelteParticipantThere aren’t many new homes in San Diego county without HOA or MR, but there are some. An example:
svelteParticipant
Who will work for Trump?
More TSD’s (Tri State Douchebags)
https://newrepublic.com/article/144103/trump-mooch-rise-new-york-douchebag%5B/quote%5D
Wow that was a very insightful article SK thanks. Not being from that area, I was not aware of the TSDs. I just attributed it to a Jersey demeanor. But having an article like that lay it out, I now see exactly what they’re talking about!
And I’m convinced the article is right…
The bigger picture, though, is that a staff of TSDs will have a rough time appealing to the rest of America, and I bet they’ll have a tough time getting along with each other. They seem like the type of people who love the limelight, and that will eventually get under Trump’s skin since that should all be reserved for him.
svelteParticipantha! That sums it up nicely Harvey!
Who would work for Trump now that they see how he treats even those close to him?
And look at the shark he chose as his new Communications Director who went on the attack of the rest of Trump’s staff in Week One!
He is going to have a very rough time filling any upcoming vacancies. It will not be a harmonious, well oiled machine at the White House…it will instead be a snake pit where everyone watches their back all the time.
It will be hard to get anything meaningful accomplished in a situation such as that.
svelteParticipantFor the long term record, this is the day he lost his Chief of Staff after just six months, his new Communications Director went on a rant threatening to fire his entire staff, and he himself continued his rampage against his Attorney General.
svelteParticipant“Let’s just repeal it now and we’ll replace it with something better later, we promise!”
Yeah, and if you believe that I have some swampland in Florida I want to talk to you about…
svelteParticipant

Why not consider a vinyl fence? Less maintenance.
I’m only replacing one side, and it would look funny if once side is wood and the other is vinyl
Some HOAs have restrictions against vinyl fences, I know from experience. Check your CCRs before doing any fence changes.
svelteParticipant
ZK, here’s the answer:
You are the typical bleeding heart liberal. Too kind, too soft.
You’re blaming the right wing media for ruining the country. Why not blame the people who consume the media. Don’t they bear responsibility? After all, they themselves would agree that the individuals are to blame for their behavior.
From the Pew studies I’ve seen, the percentage of the population that is liberal and the percentage of the population that is conservative has remained relatively stable over the past few decades. What has changed is the number of people belonging to the two major parties which has dropped significantly.
I’m still trying to figure out what is going on here, but I think it is major. The conservatives are fed up with the Republican party and jumped at the first alternative that came along – Trump. This was driven, I suspect, by the changing economy. Charts show that jobs requiring a HS education are dwindling because of technology. The folks in rural areas that are HS educated really don’t want to hear that – they attribute the job loss to immigrants, to jobs going overseas, etc. And Trump played right into that. The rural HS educated folks aren’t about to move to the city to train for a new career. They want their old jobs back. And neither Trump nor anyone else can make that happen.
But the Dems are not much behind the Reps in terms of disarray. Look at the sad set of potential candidates on the Dem side. And the message is so muddy as to be nonexistent. Yes, I dare say you might see a revolt akin to what we are seeing from Republicans on the Dem side too. Who know what nutcase the Dems will run next time…I shudder to think.
It would all be fun to watch if it weren’t so damn important.
svelteParticipantI’m with flu, time is too valuable now.
At $2200, you must be contemplating one side of the house, at least if your lot is the same size as mine are.
I like the two rows of bricks idea. I’ve been pouring a strip of cement under my fences for the same purpose, but that’s getting a bit tedious at my age. May consider bricks or similar from here on out…
svelteParticipantBy coincidence, I had fences installed on two separate properties within the last 12 months.
I used different companies for each fence (long story, no fault of either company) and both did a respectable job.
Barrett Southwest Fence
Frontier FenceI specified the same fence on both properties, so I was able to do an apples to apples comparison of the result.
End result was roughly the same, with Barrett sticking closer to spec and using a few more nails.
Time from order to install was pretty short with Barrett, and much much longer with Frontier – plus it was harder to get Frontier nailed down on a date – it kept changing. I have to say Frontier was fine with a couple of design changes I threw at them last minute which I appreciated.Either will build you a fine fence. I slightly prefer Barrett.

I called quite a few companies to get quotes. I was amazed at how few wanted to come out and give me one. Business must be good right now!
svelteParticipantPersonally, if I were in the market, I would contact these guys:
http://www.prodeckconstruction.com/
Click on their Deck Options Guide and scroll down.
My neighbors had a huge custom deck designed and installed by these guys and it is just stunning. Highest quality you can imagine.
svelteParticipant

Wow, duuude, sounds like you’ve really hit on a popular topic here.
Maybe I should make a new forum, titled something like “Home improvement and construction.” That way if you create a lot of posts on the topic, they will be easier to find in one place.
Anyone have feedback on that idea?
Great Idea! A lot of Piggs have jumped into home ownership and would be great to get advice/experience from a group of people who like to do their research and spend wisely!
I like the idea too, Rich.
Quite often when I need to learn something about home modifications, I’ll do a google search starting with site:piggington.com Having a forum specifically for that would help!
svelteParticipantExactly the kind of thread this forum needs!
Carry on!
svelteParticipant

That’s money you can’t touch tax-free till you’re 65. Whereas property gives tax-advantaged income virtually immediately. (Barring drastic tax changes.)
Wrongo… Actually, if you wanted to you could touch it and borrow against it, and pay yourself 4%, up to some of the plan’s conditions.
There are other ways too.
Many 401Ks have hardship clauses where the money can be accessed penalty free at any age.
If you retire at 55, you can access the money penalty free.
And at age 59.5, you can access the money penalty free whether you retire or not.
