Yeah, but you could use paper napkins, or tissues if you had to, if there was really going to be a shortage. Or just hop in the shower. There’s so many alternatives. Do people typically carry toilet people to work and and when they go shopping too in case they run out outside? I’m being serious.
Here’s a serious reply. When I was young and foolish I had just moved to CA from another state. My friend “A” talked me into going to NV to find his friend (person “B”)’s house who was holding some stuff (I still don’t know what) for him. So friend A borrowed his other friend’s (call him person C) dad’s car and friend A and I took off for Nevada on I-80 during heavy snow. We arrived in the dead of night, fresh fallen snow covered everything, and friend A can’t remember which house person B lives in. So he stops and starts walking around houses at 3 AM in Sparks, NV leaving footprints all the way around several houses. I stay in the car, I’m not THAT stupid.
I look in the side mirror and up pulls a cop car. Great. Asks for my license. It is from state C. Asks where I live. I say California. He asks who’s car it is. I say I’m not sure. He asks what I’m doing with a license from one state, living in another, sitting in a car I know nothing about, looking for the house of a person I don’t know and can’t give the name of in a state in which I don’t live.
Man, this looks baaaaaaad and I know it.
I just tell him I have no answers for him. So he asks me if there is a gun in the glove box. I say I have no idea. He tells me to open it. So I do. Very slowing.
It has two rolls of toilet paper.
So yeah, people do carry toilet paper around with them.
Apparently most of them live in Northern California.
By the way, I didn’t spend the night in jail but I have no idea why not.
svelteParticipant
Sanders and Warren are doing more than you think … they’re pushing the Democratic party to the left. Biden’s views…
* Public option (check)
The public option was proposed by the Obama Administration – hardly far lefters – in 2009 and removed only after Lieberman threatened a filibuster. It was also proposed by Hillary in 2016. Again, I wouldn’t call her far left.
* Free college (almost – for two years, then generous loan forgiveness and repayment capped at 5% of income)
Having the first $4K of college tuition be free has been in the Democratic platform as far back as 2008…before that it was a little more vague and didn’t specify the exact amount.
Joe is offering loan forgive only for those who don’t make over $25K/yr for 20 years, or who are public servants. The Democratic party has offered to pay for the education of teachers since before 2008…Joe just broadened it a bit.
* Federal decriminalization/descheduling of marijuana, and not interfering with state-level full legalization (check)
In no way, shape, or form are Sanders or Warren responsible for the clear trend towards legalization. That’s absurd.
* Support of public transit and AMTRAK … there’s a reason why he’s called “Amtrak Joe” – he used to commute by train from Delaware to DC on the regular (check).
Joe helped Amtrack rebuild in 2009…

His views have been forced to the left by Sanders and Warren. A moderate calling for all of this would have been unthinkable a few years ago.
Not unthinkable and actually mostly done before, as I’ve pointed out above.
svelteParticipant
Can someone explain to me why people are hoarding toilet paper? I mean, I would think it’s not the most important supply to stock up on. I just don’t get it.
Have you ever been out of toilet paper?
And your explanation of a bidet in your house…well I’m not buying that you don’t still need TP…that’s just a gross thought…

I may have gotten ahead of myself on the actual budget cuts. Most of them are proposed by the administration but overruled by Congress.
But in general, the administration has been doing everything in the Executive Branch’s power to attack agencies that are not pro-business/pro-Trump, etc. Actions include not fill positions, when filling positions, adding political appointees with no relevant experience, overruling experts, etc.
Huh. Imagine that. Yet you threw it out there as fact. Why is that? Where did you get the info from that made you feel comfortable enough to believe it, and claim it here?
Just curious. Fox News?
I take back my earlier statement. The Trump administration did cut funding. Not sure why I couldn’t find it over the weekend.

Huh. Imagine that. It took PCinSD 8 hours and 25 minutes to insult Myriad when he couldn’t locate the links to back up his statement…yet when he finally does locate the information here it is 28 hours later and no apology for the insult. Why is that? Where did PC get the ability to filter out information he didn’t want to hear?
Just curious. Fox News?
svelteParticipantI have a friend who goes there on his vacation time. He loves it.
Have to admit he made me curious to visit, but I’m not sure I’d be doing any meditating…
Still would be fun to see something different. I just like to people-watch. People are a trip in themselves.
svelteParticipantMy buddy in Tokyo says that rumblings have started about postponing the Olympics…
svelteParticipantWow, quick pace of events this week.
Biden and Bloomberg are the only moderates left.
And support is just pouring in for Biden almost overnight.

I’m hoping that this has all happened in time for it to make a difference on Tuesday. I really like Biden.
Bernie not so much.
If the stock market keeps tanking, if production lines stay closed, if thousands of people die, people may re-think whether his cuts to the CDC and other programs were such a wise thing and whether four years of Trump have left them better than before.
Just so there’s no confusion, you 2 are claiming that Trump has caused and/or exacerbated the coronavirus by cutting the CDC budget and elimination of a pandemic response team.
Care to provide a link with the data to support this claim?
I did not state that, you put words in my mouth. I stated people may re-think whether cuts to the CDC were a good idea. They may come to the conclusion that it made the coronavirus spread worse, whether or not that has any basis in fact.
Personally, I think the whole coronavirus thing is overblown. Only the very old or those with medical conditions are dying, for the most part. We could say the same thing about the flu.
The worst part would be dealing with the illness and, at least if it continues, the isolation for two weeks.
I’m still going out to all the places I normally go, taking the trips I normally take, leading my normal life.
svelteParticipant
I think the opposite is more likely. The coronavirus doesn’t affect the U.S. any more than SARS did. Everything turns out fine, no thanks to trump. Trump takes credit for everything turning out fine. Trump wins.
Certainly possible! And let’s hope not!
(at least the Trump Wins part)
svelteParticipantYeah, we’re ready for this thing.
“We have just 200 kits, and that’s for not just the traditional diagnostic, but also surveillance. It’s simply inadequate,” Newsom said Thursday. “But no longer will that be the case. … We have been assured of our capacity to significantly, exponentially increase the capacity to test.”
Let’s hope so.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/27/health/us-cases-coronavirus-community-transmission/index.html
svelteParticipant
Pretty sure Trump’s plan is to ignore it. If it becomes a problem, deny it and complain about the media. That way, it will just spread and no containment is needed.
It’s a pretty interesting situation when you stop and think about it. Trump and his sheep have disliked the global society concept and have thrown up roadblocks to globalization under the guise of protecting jobs…and then this pops up almost as a proof point that globalization is bad.
Yet, this may be the very thing that dooms his re-election. If the stock market keeps tanking, if production lines stay closed, if thousands of people die, people may re-think whether his cuts to the CDC and other programs were such a wise thing and whether four years of Trump have left them better than before.
Still nine months until the election…if this thing really takes off it really changes the political landscape…
This may end up being a very unique, interesting year.

I know that. Or you would have known that what you posted isn’t backed by fact.

svelteParticipant
I have been dong some reading and we also have the highest real estate rents of the advanced economies. It’s more profitable to invest in US real estate.
I have a new tenant from Germany who’s here on a project. He said that the rents and costs of living here are ridiculous. I was thinking: “Maybe in the future I can take my US earning and hang out in Germany for a while”. It makes sense to have US income and live overseas — location arbitrage.
Instead of posting generalizations, you should bring data.

Did I miss anything else I should stock up on?
:)
Toilet paper.
I’ve worked at grocery stores before. First thing to go!
And water.
