i’ve never said this before in my life, but I kinda wish I owned a couple of tanker trucks right now.
svelteParticipant
Kind of hard to spend $ on anything but groceries nowadays.
Over the last month, I bought a hiking umbrella. Some spf gloves. A pair of hemp pants with an old j crew gift card lying around. Some books on amazon. All in, less than 200.
This is not good for the economy.
I’m not sure our spending has subsided much on stuff like that, but our entertainment fund is barely getting touched.
We used to spend $150-200 every Fri and Sat night. Now it ‘s about $100 on Fri (we order delivery for the whole family) and just a bottle of wine at home on Sat.
And from the delivery times, EVERYONE is ordering delivery on Fridays! Delivery time is now about 2 hours on Fridays!
svelteParticipantIt would have been easier for me if you’d asked about my favorite Marx Brothers quote.
svelteParticipantI tell you what, many of my really red friends are starting to come unglued. The stuff they post is unreal.
They are very very scared right now, not only about the future but about Trump losing this fall.
We’ll pull out of this and everyone needs to take a chill pill..but we really do need a solid plan for getting back on our feet. The sooner we can all agree on milestones for opening things back up, the sooner the pain will end.
I don’t think capitalism has failed but it sure took a really solid hit. Now we’re waiting to see how many compartments have flooded.
svelteParticipantProblem with the weed market is that the black market is still a significant share and will put a lid on what legal stuff can sell for.
If price goes up too much, folks will just go back to the streets.
I doubt you’ll see prices skyrocket in the near future…taxes are already hurting legal sales also.
svelteParticipant
The price went wildly negative today, $-37 at one point. The problem is it’s for the “front month” contract. You have to show up in Cushing Oklahoma to claim it.
I lived about 20 miles from there for five years.
svelteParticipantHave no idea what you’re talking about, but West Texas Crude hit -$35 per barrel today!
What an amazing world this is!

What about the 2009-10 H1N1 flu that was supposed to be similar to 1918? Turned out, it infected 25% of the world without us knowing it and ended up being about 20x less lethal than predicted?
Could happen. I know they are just anecdotal, but here are the four cases I knew personally (four positive tests):
30s F – No hospitalization
60s M – No hospitalization
60s F – Hospitalized then back home
70s F – Hospitalized then back homeI’ve seen news articles where ER nurses have said that once people are hospitalized, they only leave in a body bag. Well that hasn’t been my experience so far.
svelteParticipant
Just found out last night about a family member on the east coast who is person #4 we know with it. Supposedly this person is in the hospital. I am trying to verify with that person’s son whether that is true or not – we heard it like 4th hand and the son is a close friend of mine.
Heard back from the son. He hadn’t been told. He lives overseas and it looks like things happened so fast that news traveled back channel through the family.
I’m trying to track down the origination of the information.
He’s in a tough spot. Can’t get info from hosp. Wouldn’t help for him to come out to east coast because hospital wouldn’t let him in anyway. Not much he can do except wait for word.

Sounds to me like we open for business, die a lot, hunker down, open for business and just kinda repeat that until we get a vaccine.Kinda depressing.
This is exactly what happened in 1918 and I expect it to happen again.
It’s hard to keep people locked up when the death rate is low as its hard to explain to them that the death rate is low BECAUSE they are locked up.
let the roller coaster begin…
svelteParticipantFinally some stats on the percent of people tested by state and the percent of those who tested positive:
Unfortunately, California isn’t listed.
svelteParticipant
I haven’t heard anything that would stigmatize victims please expound…
From the speed at which the news travels and the reactions I’ve had from folks when I tell them I know people who have it, it appears to me that folks want to be nowhere in the vicinity of someone who even *knows* someone with it, let alone to someone who has it or had it.
This will likely lead to decreased work opportunities as folks are discouraged from getting back to work if they’ve had it.
There is no proof this is happening, but I can tell you there is horror on the face of people when I say I know someone with it. I have to immediately explain that I haven’t seen these ppl in at least a year.
My wife mentioned to a co-worker she knew someone with it and on the next general conference call, the CEO announced that someone at the company knew someone with it. The conference call wasn’t even about COVID. When my wife looked into who that person was, it was herself. So that one comment had worked its way all the way to the CEO office.
Wildfire.
mojo, you don’t have to believe me if you don’t want to – you just can’t say I didn’t warn you.

HIPPA btw only applies to employees of
Healthcare entities involved in his care.
It’s HIPAA not HIPPA and I checked into it. It actually depends on who disclosed the condition:
“According to their interpretations of HIPAA, hospitals will not reveal information over the phone to relatives of admitted patients.”
So disclosing the name might be a HIPAA violation (a) for the hospital if they are the ones that disclosed it to you, or (b) for you if you work in the healthcare field.
I know folks at my company have been telling us to steer clear of HIPAA problems on this topic even though we’re not in healthcare. That’s probably where I got the misconception.

(4) Assuming most people develop immunity and clear the infection, why would infection be a scarlet letter?
Again, don’t believe me if you don’t want to.
I’m just giving fair warning that it appears to me, from the reactions I’ve been getting, that it just might become that.

News spreads like wildfire in the family when someone gets a positive diagnosis. This really appears like it might be Scarlet Letter Version 2020.
If you do find out about someone with it, it would be wise to protect their identity. No telling what sort of repercussion such a diagnosis could have on their life – warranted or unwarranted. Not to mention it would be a HIPAA violation.
