svelteParticipantI’m not really sure what the results of this thread are going to show you, Marion. All you’ll get is ancedotal replies and the men on this board are not your typical males anyway.
I am way, way different than the ‘typical’ male, but I can tell you that there really isn’t a position of power in our relationship. What normally happens is, when one of us feels strongly about a topic the other one defers to that opinion. It has worked well in the many years we have used it. Luckily, we have very similar opinions on a wide range of topics or this probably wouldn’t work.
Second, we always must be in agreement on significant financial decisions (over $1000 or so) but neither really consults the other about smaller decisions. Wifey has an extensive shoe collection which I rather enjoy myself. π And my tool collection is growing. π
Neither of us could get away with using sex as a weapon because the other would know it was an idle threat. It is such a big part of our life that whomever did the threatening would cave in a matter of days!
And since I’ve went down this road, the dress discussion was really fun. As asianautica noted all guys have different preferences, luckily. Me, I wouldn’t give a second glance to a size 00. My wife is more CMcG ish which means we can’t shop in the petites (chest won’t fit) nor the large women dept (chest fits but they look like tents)!. Thus, we are left with visiting the alteration dept for most purchases. Sigh.

svelteParticipantIt’s going to get slaughtered during this downturn, just like other new developments did during the last downturn.
I get claustrophobic whenever I drive through SEH – can’t put my finger on why, but I definitely don’t like the feeling. It’s the same feeling I get driving through 4S Ranch, which is gonna take a few lumps too. Maybe it’s the width of the streets.
It appears to me that SEH is now getting some serious commute traffic through it. I get on 78 at Twin Oaks Valley when I go to work, and there is wave after wave of heavy traffic coming over the hill from SEH direction. I bet it is the new shortcut to 78, taking a lot of the load off Rancho Santa Fe Rd. That’s gonna interfere with the “town centre” feel.

svelteParticipantI remember when we first bought in the 1980s we were shocked at what the banks were willing to lend us….they’d lend us enough money to hang ourselves, even back then!
We’ve always worked into it the other way – we decide how big we want our house payment to be and then calculate how much $$ we can borrow to hit that number. We take that loan amount, tack on what we want to put down, and that’s the maximum we can spend!
It has worked well. We never come anywhere close to borrowing the max 28/36. We like to go out and have our fun on weekends, not sit with empty pockets watching reality TV at home.
Of course, when buying your first place, you might have to stretch a little more just to get in the game.
Good luck and best wishes.
