Maybe its time to re-introduce commercial Hemp cultivation.
It grows like a weed, and has myriad uses other than making ethanol.
Obviously, many people equate Hemp with Marijuana – but they’re different species – Hemp has only a fraction of the THC content of Marijuana (THC being the ‘active’ ingredient in MJ).
Also, with the increasing outcry over the wanton use of plastics (now bobbing in the sea by a beach near you), hemp also produces everything from fibre to wax. Its a truly amazing plant, and sadly vilified in this age of “Drugs Are Bad, M’Kay”?
Hey, even George Washington grew hemp commerically…..

I keep an Excel spreadsheet of all bills, fripparies, and savings by the month. The Husband and I keep a joint ‘slush fund’ for bill/CC paying, so knowing how much (to the nearest $100) we need to put in it to keep it solvent is vital. Plus it gives us a sort of ad hoc estimate as to how bills increase/decrease during the seasons.
As for the water thing – we’re even more hardscrabble!
I treat myself to a bottle or two of ‘Vitamin Water’ every once in a while.
Once they’re drunk (mmm….yummy) the bottles are de-labled and washed.
Then we put Brita Filtered water in them, and use them in the same way as ‘store bought’ water.
The Vitamin Water bottles are very sturdy, so can be emptied, washed, and refilled many times before they get sent to recyclingApril 14, 2008 at 3:10 PM in reply to: What did it cost to take a family to the Carlsbad Flower fields? #186981speedingpulletParticipantDumbrenter – you’re not the only one!

Sheesh – there must be something wrong with us, then – our thermostat doesn’t go on until its under 60 or over 80.
Then again, the husband and I grew up in chilly London, where a lot of places had no HVAC – or even indoor lavatories – when we were youngsters.
PS – coffee makers – you can buy a genuine Bialetti Expresso maker – the octagonal ones which you screw apart – for about $25.
Fill it up and stick it on the stove like a kettle – eh voila! Perfect expresso in about 3 mins.
Want a latte? Pour half expresso (freshly made from your Bialetti) and half milk in a big mug and stick it in the microwave for a minute….mmmmm….:-)My previous Bialetti lasted for almost 20 years of daily use – it finally went to the Great Recycling Bin In the Sky once the seals had perished.

Has it ever occurred to anybody that Hillary knows she is done.IIRC, someone on Tim Russert was saying something about her going for the Governorship of NY in 2010, and using it as a stepping-stone for the 2012 presidential elections.
The reasoning being that, because David Paterson is having a motor-mouth problem about his past ‘indescretions’, he will be out of the running for re-election in 2010.
Hillary bags the Governorship – being the senator from NY will help greatly – she gets enough ‘experience’ to beat Obama fair and square in 2012, and everyone’s happy.Don’t know if its possible, or even probable.
