ParticipantActually, millennials are more likely to want to “disconnect” at least part of the time than older people:

ParticipantYou can get a barebones unlimited plan from a MVNO for very cheap, like $20/mo. You don’t fit the tablet in your jeans pocket — one doesn’t need to be connected to the Intarwebz 24/7/365.
I barely use my phone for anything necessary other than calling and texting. For any work or interaction with the Internet, my small laptop is much more comfy.

ParticipantAll joking aside, if you want a phone that’s a phone and texting device, feature phones crush smartphones as far as battery life and usability as a phone.
Browsing and doing work? I prefer a real keyboard and a desktop interface, or at least a bigger tablet screen.

ParticipantAny suggestions on what (droid) to replace it with?
A cell phone that’s just a phone and an Android tablet for data. Next?

ParticipantUniversity towns are often near cities and other job concentrations.
Nothing wrong with working for a university — not everyone needs to teach. There are a lot of peripheral jobs.
Third option is: students often have parental units with deep pockets. Start or buy a business catering to them.

ParticipantYou remind me of New Jerseyans who would say “Jersey is the BEST”.
Problem with the country outside of NJ, NYC, LA, and Miami, all of which are about 40% foreign-born is, in a nutshell … TOO MANY AMERICANS. I’d sooner live abroad than in a city that’s mostly US-born.
Americans are too often brainwashed by US media, fearful, and spoiled. I love that I can go to parts of NYC and barely hear any English spoken.

ParticipantCable company (Cocks or otherwise) email is generally a sick joke.

ParticipantMicro$hite parental controls are as useful as nipples on a male anyway. Disable ’em and run the browser that you want.
As far as mail client, I’ll second the vote for Thunderbird. It’s cross platform, free, clean interface, flexible, etc. Only things are missing are calendar and Exchange support, but I don’t use Exchange (hosted, cloud, or local) so I’m not missing much.

ParticipantOr just get a router that allows uploading an audited OS. Open source. dd-wrt or similar.
Not that what they’re describing is terribly practical outside of a lab.

Participant???
Sine wave should work fine. Do you mean square wave?
If you worry about returns, party like it’s 1999 and buy from a brick’n’mortar store.

ParticipantInput waveform doesn’t matter as much as you think. Most modern PSUs rectify the waveform before chopping it up at a much higher frequency than 50/60 hz, to power a high-frequency transformer.

ParticipantThis too ^^^ thanks.

ParticipantAgreed. I’m less concerned about the “right” to use drugs, more about the War on Some Drugs being used as an excuse to violate OTHER rights.

ParticipantThen again, we’ve had executive and judicial action increase rights recently:
(1) Right to marry whom you want to in all states. I’m not gay, but many of the arguments used against gay marriage were the same as were used against interracial marriage (a strongly personal issue for me) 50 years ago.
(2) Recent DoJ action to restrict state and local governments from excessive bail, based on income. They’re finally taking the Constitutional prohibition of excessive bail literally.
(3) The trend of restricting civil forfeiture by states.
(4) The gradual emptying of Guantanamo — holding people in limbo without trial is generally a bad thing.
(5) The end of stop and frisk, and the censuring of city police departments (Baltimore) by Federal courts. -
