ParticipantI wish, but the baaaaa-baaaaaa sheep prefer style over functionality. It would be AWESOME if the competition would push Apple to release an iPad Pro that runs a full OS X system optimized for touch screen.
(With Terminal access and without their imbecilic app restrictions, of course!)
Also note that I’m only a fan of Android and full Windows 8, not so much RT, where M$ is trying to ape Apple with software restrictions.

ParticipantNo, but a big mess while other cities pick up SF/SV’s slack is for sure possible. Point being, NOTHING lasts forever.

ParticipantThink what a strong earthquake in the wrong place would do – make Sandy look like a summer rain shower.

ParticipantIf we can afford to waste a few trillion fucking around in the Middle East, you betcha we can afford some moon missions 🙂

ParticipantThis is an unmanned probe, not a manned mission along the lines of what JFK’s legacy delivered. We’re continually launching unmanned lunar probes — last one was in Sept of this year, I think.

ParticipantHousing in tech valley is ALWAYS in demand….Has been, always will be. Parents were there in the 80ies. I was there in 90ies-early 2000, and frankly there might be downturns when tech explodes, but something always starts up again.
“Always” is a hell of a strong word to use — remember that “Silicon Valley” has only been a thing for the past 40 years or so. Tech centers can just as easily end up growing in other cities, especially with improved communications and technology (i.e. Silicon Valley will be its own demise).

Not well. SFBA is very prone to bubbles and busts, and they seldom end sell, till the next bubble comes along.

ParticipantTech Bubble 2.0. Maybe they should wait for social media to pop (and it will), then break out the champagne and celebrate wildly after picking up a house on the courthouse steps. The situation in SF is unsustainable at the moment.
Read this article and fear (“Social Media Drove Just 1% of Black Friday Sales”)…
http://mashable.com/2013/11/30/black-friday-statistics/PS – why did they sell in CV instead of renting out their place and using it to pay expenses in the Bay Area?

ParticipantBoat == “a hole in the water that swallows money.” If you want to live on one for fun, that’s fine, but don’t expect it to be cheap. Remember that it lives in a corrosive environment, so it needs quite a bit of maintenance.
From a strictly financial standpoint, best to buy a condo in the low $100k range (they exist) with common charges in the high $100 to low $200 range per month. At least theoretically, it’s an appreciating asset rather than a depreciating one.

ParticipantWhat fucking school did you go to that they taught civics to a 7 year old?
I don’t remember the exact grade, but we definitely had civics and touched on current events in elementary school, so 5th-6th grade or before. This was in public school in NJ, guess my home state starts ’em young.
And again, if we need to go in circles, I knew about marriage by the 2nd grade, and teachers mentioned people (even themselves in one case) getting married. As long as no actual mechanisms of sex are mentioned, what’s the big deal about a 2nd grader knowing that two people of the same gender got married?
Lastly, what if we created a hypothetical religion where same-sex marriage is OK and opposite-sex marriage is abhorrent? Would their followers have a right to go up in arms if a het marriage were mentioned in school?

ParticipantNo civics? No economics? No history? All of those are ALWAYS colored by opinion, politics, and maybe even religion.

ParticipantPut it this way … If I were on a jury, I’d vote not to convict our hypothetical rioter or pizza thief. Hang the jury at the very least.

Participant2. There are probably more het folk of either gender who dislike the opposite gender than is the case with gay folk. More of a chance that they’ve been hurt during a bad relationship, since they’re actually interested in such.
