ParticipantSpeaking to NYC. Lots of building, but vacancies creepin’ up…
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-12-10/manhattan-apartment-vacancies-rise-to-the-highest-in-nine-yearsAnd nationally…
As far as San Diego, did supply ever have anything to do with it? Last major construction boom was in the mid-90s, but the blessed correction in 2008-11 still happened.

Participant“Mortal” of the story? Ha ha.
I’m not sure how she mistook an absence of mass (air bubble) for a solid mass (tumor). Sounds like she needed better glasses!

ParticipantDon’t men fear cancer just as much?

Participantthey’re also treading on thin ice. Sometimes, water leaks get worse very rapidly. Especially if poorly repaired. Nomesayin’?

ParticipantYes I would. Been driving a VW with airbag light on for some time now.
Airbag light means the dashbombs are disabled. AFAIK, the Takata problem is worse. Bombs will explode in a crash, but have a (small) chance of sending shrapnel through your guts. Fun times.

ParticipantNo. I mean sic the city on them and watch the fur fly.

ParticipantI disagree. If people know that they will be foreclosed on if they don’t pay their loans (without a damn good reason), they’ll be less likely to take overly high loans in the first place.
Banks are not in the business of providing comfy places to live to trailer trash. 2008 was as much a fault of the losers who took the loans as of the banks and Fannie.
Lending standards were about right in the 80s. If you couldn’t show 20% down and income or assets, no deealio.

Participant(1) Fuck our economy. I don’t give a flying flip about an economic boom if it comes at the cost of our drinking water and environment. In the end, human health is more important than money.
(2) Heat pumps driven with nuclear-derived electricity are a perfectly good way of heating homes. Though the way the Russians/Swiss do it isn’t bad either. Use waste heat to produce steam, pipe it under the street to towns near the power plants, and heat homes directly. The steam circuit is isolated from the cooling circuit of the power plant, so the steam is non-radioactive. It’s called “district heating.”
(3) China and India should be encouraged to switch to clean nuclear, hydro, and renewables. Not fossil farts.

ParticipantReport the home to the building inspector as having toxic mold….

ParticipantRemember those are 33,000 homes out of 6 million underwater, and this is a “last ditch” program. Past statistics being what they were, maybe 3,300 homeowners will actually get the writedown.
This is a chance for FHFA being seen as doing something while then moving forward on the other homes. And also buying some Dummyquack votes.

ParticipantLarge engines aren’t necessarily much less efficient anymore.

ParticipantForeclosure requires a legal process that takes a lot more time in some states than in CA. Court costs, attorney costs, broker costs when selling an REO. This is essentially giving the owners the home to sell as they please. No attorney fees, and the homeowner pays the broker fees themselves when selling it.

ParticipantIf you really hate oil, you should be encouraging fracking and have natural gas replace coal and also support Fuel Cell to use that natural gas to generate electricity.
No. We should encourage nuclear and have nuclear electricity replace coal. French have the right idea. Vive la France!

ParticipantShe either doesn’t like you for some reason, is incompetent, or has a contract with the owner that lends itself to churning tenants.
If you wanted to hit back, you should have reported the mold to the city inspector’s office as a health hazard. Paint/drywall? Unless lead paint is peeling, it’s a rental. Either touch it up yourself or just forget about it. It’s a rental.
