Yes, spending money for a book to help you save money seems a little crazy, but…if I just lecture to this friend “don’t spend more than you make”, she won’t listen. And honestly I don’t want to lecture to her. That’s why I had the idea of giving her a book rather than giving my advice. I like the software idea, but her husband works for a computer company and can be very arrogant about software and she’s not to computer literate, so and old fashioned book might be best for her.

The battlebot scene seems really cool, I had never heard of it before and I can be pretty darn geeky at times 🙂

The wild animal truck tour is absolutely amazing, something to do at least once while living in San Diego.

When I had vacationed here in the past (before becoming a resident) I was able to rent a small sailboat for the afternoon. Sailing on the Bay is just beautiful and a great way to spend a day. I am sure there are still marine operations that rent out sailboats.

12 is an awesome age! Many 12 year olds are independent and cool, can have a decently intelligent conversation without being too adolescent “attitudish” or girl crazy – enjoy your visit! I like the idea of printing out this list and having him pick what he wants to do.(You might want to have a budget in mind when you give him options) Booggie boarding or surf lessons would totally make him a cool dude in his friends eyes when he goes back to Kansas. You might also want to take him up to the LA area to see Hollywood or go to Universal Studios.
