Participant
Yeah, the “friends and family” clause sticks out like a sore thumb. My wife’s family is usually pretty good at taking advantage of that sort of thing, “making friends,” as business owners in the community…but in this case they’re not quite on board with us yet and, either way, I think we’re going to have to get lucky along with everyone else :-/. What we want is a few phases away, so we can gauge phase by phase.
Good thing we’re already situated in good place :-).
A friends and family member took one of the homes in the first release, but I don’t think it’s something you’re going to have to worry about too much for the remaining releases. During the boom, homebuilder employees were all over these things, sometimes treating them like an ESPP, but that, like the rest of it, seems to have died down.
That said, it sounds like you might have a “friend” angle, so good for you. How good of a friend do you need to be? There are 3 plan threes facing the park, so I think you’re still in great shape, but if you could pull that off you’d be a lock.

Participant
Like talking to a wall. They were generalizations and very clearly stated as such hence the “far more likely” statements not absolute statements like Santee will NEVER BE Del Cerro. I’m open to all beleifs including the possibility that Santee and/or Sky Ranch could be a wonderful place to live.
sdr, I’m confused. You put forth “this will never be this” all the time. Most of your points are completely valid, but you’re as anecdotal as the next guy (as am I). Santee never will be Del Cerro (and I’m not trying to say Del Cerro is all that or Santee sucks). Seems to me you just phrase it differently, e.g. “there is no substitution effect”. Maybe it’s just a matter of degree?

Participant
Plan three is actually our first choice. Plan four is a maybe and we’re only interested in the remaining lots that would be bordering the (yet to be built) Kristen Glen park coming a few phases from now.
I’d think your chances are pretty good then. Are you sure there were 4 plan 3’ers in front of you? How many people were at the release? Maybe a dozen? Fifteen?
