ParticipantNo people are all different. You are trying to project your outlook on life on everyone. If people were all the same then we would not have winners and losers, we wouldn’t have leaders, followers, pawns, kings, queens etc… Your reality is what you make it. How you respond to external stimulus is within yourself, how you were raised and how you were shaped. The only thing that tilts the scale is that alot of people are born into wealth or luck or whatever you want to call it and most are not. However you will never convince me that we are all slaves to this all encompassing external stimulus or pressures that we are all aware of or not aware of and that these drive our every move and we can say we did this or that because of those things. I am sure driven people who are successful in life succumb to that mentality.
I guess I am like your wife. To me it is a pile of bullshit.

Participantscaredy if you believe that you were a pawn in a much bigger game and that this is your reasoning for signing loan docs then yes you are correct you were a pawn.
People can choose to be what they want. The majority of the population are pawns. Indeed they do not think for themselves or stand up and do what they know in their MIND is correct.
So yes you are absolutely correct and illustrate my point about the victimized buyer who can convince themselves that ultimately they really were not fully responsible for their own actions. Just remember, not all of us were pawns. Only those who chose to be.

ParticipantNo Desmond I think you could not be more incorrect. Actually the folks who haven’t bought are mad as hell because those that did buy are getting away scott free so to speak. Others that did buy are getting mods. Others may even see REDUCTIONS in loan balances. Funny, even some of the most prolific bearish people who post here bought and are in foreclosure. The bottom line is personal responsibility. I am not saying don’t walk away. I am also not saying that the real estate industry, the fed, wall street, the ratings agency, etc did not feed the fire. However HE WHO SIGNED THE LOAN DOCS IS AND WAS RESPONSIBLE. Because if you never signed those docs, you would have never been in trouble. Yet I guess it is always more convenient to blame others. We all were living in the same time and under those same pressures to buy and not all of us did.
