ParticipantDesmond try not to change what you said. You wrote that the people who didn’t buy now are probably laughing. Nothing more and nothing less.
Let’s not retrofit your post okay? I know I am correct that those who did not buy are not laughing at all. This doesn’t mean they wish they would have bought. This doesn’t have anything to do with those who did buy and are living in or out of a mess.
Maybe you didn’t buy and you are laughing. I would tend to make a small wager with you that I know and work with alot more people who did not buy a home back at the peak then you do. They are mad as hell. Not because they did not buy, but because they are now getting screwed. They made the right choice, they know it, I know, we all know it. They foolishly believed the market would be allowed to move unconstrained. They didn’t know the rules of free market would no longer pertain to housing. So are they committed to their decision? Yes of course. Do they regret not buying? No they do not. Are they frustrated and pissed off? Yes they are. Are the laughing like you posted? No not really, they are not.

ParticipantRead what I wrote. I never said walking away was not good or bad. Just don’t blame your poor decisions on other people, or external conditions, or Alan Greenspan, or (pick your scapegoat and insert it here). Taking responsibility in the form of walking away is fine with me. We all pay when someone does that because our govt is controlled by those entities that go walked away from.
There is no doubt all of these greater entities ENCOURAGED people to do the wrong thing, PROVIDED an easy path for them to MAKE STUPID CHOICES. Yet they didn’t sign the loan docs.

yes winners and losers are very different. Don’t pull a red/black roulette bet on me. Try to distinguish between winners/losers and the outcome of a random event.
Randomness happens in life. Most of the population is borne into a life with less opportunity then others.
Yes there are those who enjoyed the benefits of being borne into a life of leisure. Those people are not winners, they are lucky. Randomness smiled upon them.
However to me a winner does not have to be a rich person. Winners are people who shape their own lives and for better or for worse enjoy them and take responsibility for themselves. There is nobody to blame, no external conditions that put them there. If they had adversity in their lives they adapted and overcame. People shape their own lives or they have them shaped for them to a varying degree by their own external conditions, spouses etc. You make your life, you make your breaks or your screw ups, you pick yourself up and move on. Or you let the wind blow you around.

ParticipantNo people are all different. You are trying to project your outlook on life on everyone. If people were all the same then we would not have winners and losers, we wouldn’t have leaders, followers, pawns, kings, queens etc… Your reality is what you make it. How you respond to external stimulus is within yourself, how you were raised and how you were shaped. The only thing that tilts the scale is that alot of people are born into wealth or luck or whatever you want to call it and most are not. However you will never convince me that we are all slaves to this all encompassing external stimulus or pressures that we are all aware of or not aware of and that these drive our every move and we can say we did this or that because of those things. I am sure driven people who are successful in life succumb to that mentality.
I guess I am like your wife. To me it is a pile of bullshit.
