ParticipantI don’t think so. On the contrary, quite a few of people prefer single story. It “lives” more spacious than 2 story which waste more space with stairs and hallways. I like the layouts for single story better.
Now, of course, age and the upgrades and shape the house is in will matter. Often enough single story are older. But more people will reject a house based on age than on 1 vs 2 story per se.

I completely understand the point of seller holding negative feelings, and believe me, if it’s a house we truly have to have, we don’t need any agent to tell us to offer more – we will do so on our own – because it’s so hard to find something you really love. But if it’s not, well, if we don’t get a good deal on a house that’s not quite “there”, well, there will be other houses…On the other hand we try to not get too emotionally involved with all the houses that fit our parameters :).
And truthfully, the lowballing indeed has to do more with the market. The prices may come down some in the future, so if we buy now, it better be pretty good.
