ParticipantThank you very much UCGal for the school advice. I have a stupid question. What if you rent let’s say in LJ zip code, your child starts school in, e.g. LJ elementary, and THEN you move/buy/rent in another zip code, e.g. Clairemont. DO you HAVE to move the child in the next academic year, or when he starts middle school, or can she continue in LJ schools?

ParticipantI wonder how easy it is to successfully choice into another school, like UC or LJ, and what would be the criteria to be approved. we work in LJ so LJ schools may work better logistically.

ParticipantExcellent info, thanks Bearishgurl, Sduuuude, UCGal! Many thanks. I am convinced we will give at least a good look. Commute would be so easy to La Jolla from there. And we could find a decent home for our price range.
I got it about the retired people, and I am absolutely fine with that. I have young kids but hopefully there will be some kids on the block.
I’ve looked online at some listings in the nicer areas and most like a good value on paper. plus no HOA or MR. And I like that there are no cookie-cutter houses. Of course, nothing beats seeing them in person.
the biggest issue remains schools, we’ll either go with Muir or others, public ones, that decent (which are???), or hopefully choice in La Jolla or UC schools.
Also,I noticed that the inventory is not so bad, compared with for example, Rancho Penasquitos.
