ParticipantIt’s true, sales can be very lucrative, no matter what you’re selling. If a software company’s salespeople are performing and the company is successful because of it, nobody should be surprised when they’re the highest paid employees in the company short of executives.
Anyway, I don’t see the current RE commission structure continuing forever. Redfin and the like are probably the future. My wild guesses are that eventually agents will make a base salary plus a MUCH smaller commission, and the MLS will gradually be replaced by a public database.

You can have a little one-bedroom with a view starting at about 80k euros ($114k). A little more will get you something like this:

If location is important and you’ve got the money, there’s always Santorini (the volcanic island that blew up part of the Minoan civilization). You can’t top it for history/beauty:

A half-million for that is a bargain compared to the San Diego coast. Do a google image search for Santorini and you’ll see what I mean.

ParticipantThat’s when you’ve got money to burn. I’ve settled on a much more achievable goal – an ocean view condo on a Greek island for use as a vacation rental/second home. They are surprisingly affordable.
Having your own island would be cool, but I actually like when other people are around. Feels more… civilized.
