It’s not over parenting, it’s stability. They get to stay in the same place and keep their friends, and if we prepare well, it doesn’t inconvenience us in the slightest. We’re picking the neighborhood that WE want to live in, one that’s good for kids as well.
But, for example, if they want a car, they get to pay for it themselves. We want them to feel grounded, but we won’t coddle or spoil them.

RenParticipantAgreed – it’s a respect and partnership issue, not a “who wears the pants” issue. I can buy a xoom if I want, but I wouldn’t do it without discussing the need with my wife.
