RenParticipant
For some reason, I’ve been a new home snob. I don’t think I can continue to entertain that if I want a good deal in today’s market.
If money wasn’t an object, I would go brand-new all the way. As it is, I’ll be aiming for “newer”, like 2000-2007. Besides being in much better shape, newer homes tend to have more useful interior architecture than older ones – bigger closets, bigger kitchen, walk-in pantry, laundry room upstairs, etc.
I’ve lived in both older and newer, and what gets to me about older homes is thinking about the dirt, rust, mold, rot, corrosion, and mummified mouse corpses that you don’t see, or can’t get to.

RenParticipantMy wife and I toured the Harveston condos last Saturday, and she loves the look of the area. They quoted me $252/mo HOA for the condos, which included cable, trash, and a few other things I’m forgetting. After she went down the list it didn’t seem so horribly high. They were very nice, but we’ll be needing a yard.
Even the sfr properties there tend to have small lots. I just can’t see paying for a 4-5,000 sq ft lot when I could get 6 or 7 in south Temecula for less.
The Fairways gated community in Redhawk looks awesome. Anyone know the taxes/HOA there?

RenParticipantFLU is right. They want water. Doesn’t matter how clean you keep your house. They’ll find a spec of something and they’ll be on it.
Tell that to the ants around here. We live in CV and don’t have an ant problem, because we keep the house clean. We leave water out for the dog, have damp potted plants around, etc., but no ants. Leave food out for a couple of days, then they show up.
If anyone wants to lead ants outside with food, try a small pile of sugar.
