Unless you make your living in an area of construction I don’t see how you would even be able to tell if a builder is taking a short cut. Do you know they should be using polybutilene piping vs copper? WOuld you know if they should be using 3/8 of an inch board vs 1/2 inch. I have no idea what my mechanic puts in my car when making repauirs and to be honest I don’t care. What I do care about is making sure that teh car works after it is fixed.
Based on your comments I would’t give the house a second thought. What I would consider important is spending every minute of time with my parents and family as you never know when their time might come. Seems like you really need to prioritize.
