ParticipantChris, why do you think the commercials went short?
leung_lewis, I only bought COP because of Zeals’ recommendation, and I trust their research. I believe oil is in dwindling supply, and the only big source is the oil shale. That is an expensive process, to extract, so it wasn’t done while the price was low. Now that the oil price is high enough, the oil companies will start to extract oil from the oil sands/shale. I believe high oil is here to stay, but the recession can lower the price a little bit. So the days of $50/barrel oil are behind us, IMO, and we are headed to $100/barrel oil, with a few dips along the way, and a big dip from the recession. But don’t forget the largest use of oil is farming, from fertilizer (my husband told me; he read a book about the food supply).
I don’t believe the headlines that claim “Oil down on fewer mideast tension”. I abhor those headlines, bec. the journalist tries to assign a cause, but they have no idea why oil went down. Neither do we. THey should simply write, “Oil down today”. And not guess at a reason. The journalists do this with gold and the dollar and the stock market too. They are guessing, and usually they are actually very wrong. When they say gold is down because the dollar is up, they are wrong, because gold does not follow the dollar, but inflation.

Participantmanmom, i have written often about the poor areas of poway; i think last spring i said that about half of poway is poor. Just wrote a post yesterday about the 2 sides of poway: unique older homes in green valley, my favorite neighborhood, as well as bridlewood, gatewood hills, lomas verdes estates. highland valley is too rural for me. then we have the poorer areas with small homes, where we’re getting most of the NODs and foreclosures now: garden rd, community rd, and pomerado rd areas. lots of ugly poor homes in poway too. lots of look-alike tract homes in the ultra rich maderas estates, where the athletes buy their $3 mil and more homes. all houses look the same. been there, don’t care for it personally.

don’t think usaa will get paid faster than others. look how long it took the gov’t to clean up katrina. gov’t is slow, inefficient, and often very incompetent!

Participantvcguy, Bauer’s not good. They give Everbank and World Savings 4 stars! Weiss does the real digging, and Everbank is E-. Weiss doesn’t do CU.
We could have another S&L crisis in 2007 – 2009. It’s happened before when housing went bust. FDIC will return your money, eventually, you may have to wait awhile.

Participantno-such-reality, bunk to you too. Just kidding….My data is correct. I’m using yoy.
luenglewis, my best way is mostly cash (various currencies), maybe some commodities (unless recession creates losses as demand declines), PMs once price comes down, and long on oil stocks or recession proof stock w/ low P/E. shorting is good for those who dare.

ParticipantGatewood Hills is home to one of the prime schools in North County: Chaparral Elementary in PUSD. Chaparral and my son’s school tie between the highest test scores in Poway, and it has a great reputation; we attended there one year, and I looked at Gatewood Hills when homes were in the mid 300s in early 2000.
The better areas in the PUSD are holding up well. Have seen lots of Sold signs in Poway and saw many new families yesterday at the first day of school.
Poway will be one of the last to go down, except for the lower income (and high NOD) areas in south Poway and off Pomerado, which have probably taken a hit already. (Townhomes and condos in Poway are down as well.)

Participantdo you have a website? have you found 60% off properties?
You are the most honest realtor I have ever met! I would NOT be able to sell real estate now, and have had to close an eye to this fact, as I’ve made some nice friends on this forum. But I struggle with how these people can sell homes, knowing what I know, that these people are helping someone lower their net worth substantially. What a troubling business to be in, it truly is. If I were a realtor, I would have switched professions last year. I’m just too damn honest, and caring. I would feel like each deal someone is losing money for my gain. I could never do it, and I admire your principles, contraman. But I still have these dear friends who have no trouble with this, so I blink an eye to this dilemma.
