ParticipantConsidering the cheese pizza is often the exact same price or $0.25-$0.50 more, quibbling over the number of pepperoni seems a bit anal.
Amusement park food is overpriced, but if you don’t like it, bring bag lunches.

ParticipantWe just refinanced in January for what I thought was a spectacular rate (no cost, shaved 0.25% off our original purchase rate), but it looks like they are down 0.25% since we refinanced.

ParticipantThe media feels very Doom and Gloom about this right now, so I might hold off on trying to catch that falling knife.

Participant
zk,
Betting markets have Hillary at 1:3 odds, Trump at 3:1 odds. After this vote, that 3:1 seems like a good insurance policy. Drink up!
I think Trump is an underdog, but more of a 3:2 underdog. Hillary is not a 1:3 favorite right now.

ParticipantI’d rather buy Helium.
This would have been great advice in January, but right now Gold doesn’t look very cheap to me.

ParticipantIf living in Temecula is a reasonable option for you, by all means, live in Temecula.
You’re right that tons of people live above their means. In my marriage I’m the one who constantly reminds my wife that we can’t afford things.
There *is* something to be said for having fun and enjoying life in your 20s with a few frivolous vacations. It sounds like you’re not married and don’t have kids yet. Enjooooy it wile you caaaaaaan (he says in a spooky ghost voice).
Prices are high right now. It’s probably a good idea to keep renting.

ParticipantIf I was thinking about buying right now I’d be very concerned with how high prices are. I’m still hesitant to throw around “Bubble”, although we’re creeping in that direction. Lending standards are still a lot tighter than they were during the Bubble.
Some fundamentals are off (income ratio) but others like the Rent/Buy ratio are fine. San Diego, especially the “Desirable” areas of San Diego County does have a supply crunch. Especially if you’re not looking to but a $1.2M giant home on a small lot in Del Sur. New construction of “starter” homes is basically non-existant.
Since supply is unlikely to catch up with demand in the short run, it’s more likely that rising rates will be what finally slows prices. It’s entirely plausible that coastal SD County will be a lot like San Francisco in 10 years, where most people who work in the city can’t afford to live anywhere near the city.

ParticipantI’m very happy to see data-driven Piggs completely destroy this post.

Participant
Ok, I just checked my source and of course, I don’t have TV anymore. Hill will be at Hilltop High tomorrow morning at 10:30, Bill will be at BVHS tomorrow morning at 10:30 and Bernie will be at Kimball Park, NC tomorrow afternoon at 4:30.
It’s going to be a busy week for political rallies in SD County!
And Trump will be in San Diego next Friday!
I’d love to see Bill, but I’m not driving to South County to see him speak.

ParticipantI love politics, but despite Chiang’s entry, it’s too early for me to care about 2018.
As for the 2016 California Senate race, yeah, it’s safe Democrat. The democratic candidates don’t have serious policy disagreements so it’s gonna be blah unless one goes negative. There’s little incentive to do so, since the Democrats may be able to pull off a Democrat vs. Democrat November election if they are the top 2 vote getters in the primary.

Somebody can’t create an import export company that buys drugs for fractions of the price in India and then opens a pharmacy here.
Thank god. As much as people like to take their lives into their own hands buying drugs in Mexico, the simple fact is many countries don’t have the same rigorous chain of custody requirements for drug products the US has. For something in a pressed pill format (i.e. viagara) this is less of an issue than for things like IV drugs that have requirements for storage.Even for pills chain of custody is important to ensure you’re getting what you think you’re getting. Bear in mind that something like half of imported olive oil is fake. If your “olive oil” is actually a cheaper oil… no big deal, right? But if your medicine isn’t what it’s supposed to be? That’s a huge issue.

ParticipantWell, marketing dollars don’t always have a 1:1 increase in cost to the consumer. In theory if you increase sales and can increase economies of scale by selling more products, you can actually increase profit without increasing price at all.
Of course that assumes the sponsorship/endorsement pays off in increased exposure and sales. Looking at his major endorsements, the ones that confuse me most are Kaiser Permanente and JP Morgan. But these days Young Men are a VERY difficult demographic to reach. They (I guess I can’t count myself as “young” anymore) really only watch TV for live sporting events. So a company that wants to reach young men isn’t crazy to make a deal with a popular young star.
Of course, Nutella found out what happens when your endorsee has off-the-court trouble with Kobe. Then again, everyone seems to have forgotten about Kobe’s incident, perhaps because in the end he wasn’t convicted.

ParticipantYup. Pay someone to cut it down.
