Participant

You also pointed out the sex offenders living in that neighborhood and I fully agree that this could be a problem when it comes to resale value. smart buyers always check these kind of info before making a descision to buy.
Sex offenders live everywhere in the greater SD. I’ve also looked at the Megan’s Law website and found that all the zip codes where I was looking (San Marcos, Rancho Bernardo, MM and Poway, etc) had sex offenders living there. It’s virtually impossible to find a populated residential area within SD where’s there’s no sex offenders.
I understand the other knocks on Santee but to pin this one on Santee just isn’t fair. If I’m a girl, there are many neighborhoods that I can think of that’s more scary to walk around after dark.

ParticipantThis thread is meant for perspective buyers to learn more about Sky Ranch and Santee. Most of us have biased opinion (myself included) since we’re not in the house hunting game and are happy where we are. We should really look from the perspective buyers’ point of view.
Sunny88, you’re currently living in MM and were looking to buy a home so perhaps we can get some insights from you:
– where did you initially look?
– did you know much about Santee before you started house hunting?
– initially, how high was Santee’s communities on your shopping list?
– if you didn’t know much about Santee previously, what do you think of it now?
– in your personal opinion, do you feel that Santee is on par, more or less desirable than MM?
– if you’re back in the house hunting game, would Santee still be on your list, assuming there are qualified selections here?PKMAN

Participant
I believe that people were not dissing Santee as much as saying that the dollar doesn’t really stretch further at Sky Ranch, especially if you include the commute and the HOA.
Not defending or justifying Sky Ranch….but if San Marcos and Chula Vista can have $800K+ homes with high HOA, long commute to central SD and often with crippling Mello Roos, why not Sky Ranch?
So I think it’s still comes down to the fact that many people don’t view Santee as desirable as these other cities.
