    Without raising taxes a good 20-30%, and laying off large amounts of public workers, I agree with flu that we’re more or less screwed.

    Much of the American quality of life has been based on an unsustainable rate of population growth, combined with taking advantage of foreign resources and workers. Those wells are drying up.

    For those in this thread who were considering solar: Did you end up going with an install? What type?

    I heard about this “Echo” system which seems to be a fancy way to combine a couple different technologies to get some more bang-for-buck: http://www.pvtsolar.com/whatisit_how.php – any thoughts?

    This thread is making me sick. You guys can’t actually believe that we have true capitalism in this country??

    No, what we have is crony capitalism – bailouts for those that are connected, shifting the losses to the public.

    Real capitalism would have bankrupted the Wall St firms, holding them responsible for their actions. Yes, it would have caused massive repercussions throughout the economy. But that happened anyway.
