Del Cerro and Allied Gardens look like excellent locations. I had just started looking into those areas and they look great.

For bang for the buck, I think there are some nice areas of La Mesa, San Carlos, and the Rolondo neighborhood in San Diego (bordering La mesa) that are beginning to look almost affordable. But I’m looking primarily at locations within half an hour of downtown, which is important to me.
I’m curious what others might see as the “hidden gems” of San Diego.
