ParticipantI went to an open house in Coronado last weekend. The realtor was trying to tell me that it is a great time to buy because inventory is huge. He showed me a list that he had sitting on the counter next to the house flyers. I was impressed all right, but not in the way he intended!
He told me that the seller was, “Very motivated.” I don’t doubt it! The inside needed major updating. The bathrooms had not been touched since it was built (82), the kitchen was okay but had a musty smell (major red flag!), There was an ugly 8×8 tile in most of the house that was only saved by the fact that it was a solid color (I was not impressed that it was supposed to have come all the way from Europe), popcorn ceilings and it is very, very ugly from the street. I commented on how ugly the house was and the realtor tried to tell me that all it needed was a good power washing. Power washing is not going wash off the ugly, I’m afraid. I think that poor house is one of the ugliest houses in pretty Coronado.
It did have some good points. The space was very usable, it was a 3/2, it had a nice size patio area in the front and in the back between the main house and garage and the garage was ally entrance. Lot size was 3,500.
All this for an asking price of 1,250,000. I am sure they are going to have to chop a lot off in order to sell it. There was another house only two or three down that had just cut their price to 1,085,000. I have not been inside that one.

ParticipantThat capital gains point is a big one. I bet a lot of people who decide to rent ranther than sell have not thought about the tax consequences.

ParticipantYikes! What is happening to me? My friends are all watching Grey’s Anatomy and I’m glued to Piggingtons, getting excited about NOD and ARM reset graphs.
Thanks for the graphs, guys!

ParticipantI would like to see the actual numbers of people in those stats. Since O’Reilly has 33% more viewers, that additional amount could account for the portion of lower income/education folks. I bet the gap looks significantly smaller if you look at true numbers rather than percentage of all viewers. Further, O’Reilly probably has significantly more retired people watching his show. These people probably have a lower income than employed people. Additionally, postgraduate education has become much more important in the last 20 years and older generations probably have a lower percentage of postgraduate degrees (my very smart grandfather did just fine with an eighth grade education).
I would like to see these statistics broken down into pure numbers and by age. They might tell a totally different tale.

ParticipantI’m sure there were people laughing at those who cashed out six months before the tech bust. Sure, they missed the last bit of the run-up but they also missed the much steeper fall. Like PS, I’m happy in my safe investment for now.
Just about everybody we knew thought we were crazy to sell our house. One neighbor laughed at me and told me that our houses would be worth double in five years. My mother thought we were fools. The tune is changing.
If the water suddenly recedes a half mile out to sea, should you rush out onto the revealed sea floor to pick up the pretty shells?

ParticipantAll morning I been trying to fit the mold. Sheeet, all that learnin’ don’t do no good to nobody. I’m as happy as pig in poo, now that I don’t know nothin’.
Ain’t it great?PD
ParticipantGee, I had no idea I was living all wrong. I guess I need to move out of my Coronado home since I just don’t belong in such a high-brow place. The trailer park is where I should be! I wonder if there are any vacancies down in Imperial Beach? I need to sit down with my husband and explain to him that he needs to forget all that learnin’ in his head and I’ll do the same. I’m going to go out and buy a few cases of cheap beer and some skoal this morning. Maybe I should change my name to Ellie May.
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly….. Hills that is! Swimming pools, movie stars…

ParticipantIt seems to be a little easier finding a rental in the winter. We were looking in January and found three good houses. We negotiated on the rent and ended up getting them to knock off $200 off of a price that had already been reduced.

ParticipantThanks North County Jim! I had a good laugh about the fact that the liberals on this site were busy bashing FOX for irresponsible RE spin when in fact the spin was all from the forum poster!

ParticipantI agree that this segment was at best poor journalism. However, this doesn’t make the whole network bad. Come on!
Has CNN been broadcasting warnings to potential home buyers? I seem to have missed that….
Fox grew out of need to give the American people access to news that was not left-wing propaganda.

ParticipantThose calling FOX mindless are liberals. It is so nice and convenient to call something mindless that you don’t like. Pat your backs folks! Oh wait, you’re already doing it.
CNN is liberal haven as is NPR. You are going find spin everywhere. If you are going to attack one channel for political bias, please be even handed about it, if you are capable of it (see the forum on bias confirmation).
As for awards, I would like to see the political affiliation of the award panels. Lets see, hmm, I bet they are heavily liberal…

ParticipantIf it continues at the same rate, we equal the previous peak during the next year. Wow!

ParticipantNancy, are you a pseudonym for Powayseller? I have often wondered.
Although I have had a few wrangles with PS, she does add good links and information. However, I find these constant threats to withdraw very tiresome and silly.
In the same vein, I thought Docteur was an important poster and I respected him. I was very disappointed that he allowed PS and a few others to chase him away.
