ParticipantDo you think that is clever, PS, using my unhappiness with policy to cast aspersions on our brave forces?

ParticipantWe will see it again because memory is short. Lenders were blamed for the last SoCal downturn because they were funding loans that (in hindsight) were unrealitic prices for homes. Everyone decided that lenders had learned their lesson. Ten years later….

ParticipantJG, I’m not so sure. All the will and fortitude seems to be dying with my Grandfather’s generation. We have become a nation of lazy quitters and complainers who expect instant gratification and stunning success. Without it, they demand retreat.

ParticipantThe downfall of our society is coming, just like the Romans. However, the cause will not be that we were willing to fight, rather it will be that we were not willing to fight hard enough.

ParticipantThat sounds interesting. Do you have a link to the story?

ParticipantBunny, are you a hornet guy? Just wondering if you are the same “Bunny” my husband knows.

ParticipantPlus, that 5% is what they REPORTED. Does anybody doubt that they are trying to hide the true reduction?

ParticipantCabinboy seems to have a very high opinion of himself and a very low opinion of everyone else. According to him, only the professionals are capable of being right (even though almost all economists were wrong about GDP) and us stupid Piggingtons who sold our houses at the peak did so purely by chance.
It sounds like Cabinboy is a Financial Advisor who is proud of the fact that he has been in the market the last couple of months. I hope that everyone on Piggingtons has made money. I sold in May and took great profits. At least half of the stocks I sold have not returned to the price where I sold them. The other half are above where I sold them. However, when you calculate the added profit I made with half my stocks, minus the additional value of the ones that have gone up, plus the interest I have earned over the last six months, I’m about break even. Go figure.
I will admit, however, that if I had bought in August with the proceeds of my sales in May, I could have made even more money. Most people who are pointing the stupid finger, however, did not sell at the high in May and rebuy at the low. Their profit for the interim is the difference between the two (very simplified since everyone’s portfolio is different).

ParticipantWe haven’t won in Iraq because our policy has been “niced up” in an attempt to appease people like PerryChase and the liberal press (who love to bash the US and delight in showing video to that effect). You can’t fight nice. Our policy has been an attempt to walk the fence. We won WWII because we fought hard and harsh and threw everything we had at it until we won. The same thing is required here but most Americans do not have the stomach for it. We have become a nation of quitters because the emasculated left demanded what I call the Eunich's Policy Toward Warfare.
Did you know that Men’s testosterone levels are down in the U.S?

ParticipantIt is scary that people have to use savings to pay their mortgage.

ParticipantWe put 5% down on our first house. We had no help from family but we also did not sink ourselves into stupid debt on our wedding (unlike so many young couples these days who are spending 30k -40k that they don’t have).
We got lucky and made enough on our first house to put down 20% on the second (we also saved in the interim).

ParticipantI love this line:
“Our goal was to not let buyers chase the market down,” Sares-Regis’ Eyerman said.
I see this a slip-up. He is admitting that prices are going down.

ParticipantRoubini predicted 1.0 – 1.5. His was a little off but he was closer than most economists. He predicts recession by Q1 2007.
I wrote months ago that I thought the recession would start around Thanksgiving. The next six months are going to be interesting. What is going to happen to the economy? What is going to happen to housing? We are entering a slow time for home purchases, coupled with a rising number of people who must sell due to resets. Are we going to see big drops this winter? A recession will grease the slide……. Dooooowwwnnnn…….
