Guys, this is why I am so anti government. We give them $3 Trillion a year to spend. After seeing how incompetent they are on big issues just imagine all the other stupid things they do. Can’t yall just imagine for a minute how much we must waste of that $3 Trillion? I bet GE could figure out a way to cut out half.I really believe that the first challenge that a generation has is to do what it takes to make it better for the next generation. What we are doing is and for the first time in our history intentionally making it worst for the generation to come. So, in a way it would be appropriate for this to crash now and let this generation, the baby boomers who caused this, pay for it.

Participantjficquette, the private banks originated the bad debt. Remember it’s the banks who wrote the mortgages and interacted with the homebuyers who couldn’t afford the houses they bought.
It’s the banks who didn’t do the underwriting and play by the rules.
It’s the banks who told consumers that they could afford those overpriced houses.
It’s the banks that didn’t verify income of debtors although they could do so with the IRS.
It’s Wall Street and the banks that “innovated” and created new financial products.
Then the banks sold that toxic debt to the GSEs in the secondary market.
Self-regulation is no regulation.

Participantjficquette, what do the GSEs have to do with this bailout here? You’re conflating issues here.
The GSEs have already been nationalized! Remember?
This bailout is to buy the bad paper owned by private banks, not the GSEs.
