September 27, 2012 at 9:51 PM in reply to: OT: Optometrists & Reflective Coating. Scam or For Real? #751985paramount
ParticipantI always get a hard sell when I’m buying glasses at an independent optometrist.
I avoid the indy’s and stick to Costco or Wal Mart if at all possible.
I’d say the anti-reflective coatings could be good (blocking certain wavelengths of light) at the right price.

ParticipantI know a lot of people in San Diego wear the “I don’t need A/C” as a badge of honor. Particularly when speaking to someone from lowly Temecula, they’ll often go out of their way to remind you that they supposedly don’t need A/C.
But with global warming it seems A/C has become a nicety or a necessity even on the coast.
Don’t fight it: A/C is one of the greatest inventions ever invented.
I think the obvious answer here is: let’s revisit this next year.
Although it’s supposed to get really hot this weekend and into next week.
Maybe she could add an additional portable unit or two.
Personally I’d probably add window units.

ParticipantWhat about Israel starting a hot war with Iran using a false flag operation?
Would that keep you up at night?
September 24, 2012 at 9:59 PM in reply to: QE3 Away!: (EDIT: Now on the special unlimited nights and weekend spending plan)… #751820paramount
ParticipantI was reading an article on seeking alpha that (I thought) suggested QE3 money would not make it past the banks (and therefore to consumers) and would not significantly impact inflation.
Further suggesting that Bernanke’s helicopter strategy might be more effective.

ParticipantI wonder if QE3/infinity required congressional approval.

ParticipantThanks everyone.
It seems in general that landlords and tenants have a very contemptuous relationship.
Here’s the thing though: when you rent a car and the rental company asks you to inspect the car and note any damage do you pull out a magnifying glass?
I doubt it.
What your looking for is significant damage – not every little defect.
You and the rental company both know the car isn’t brand new….

I think a voucher system would help here. Let the parents decide. Give them X dollars to spend where they like on the school and teachers of their choice and let the power of millions of people making small decisions go to work. Power to the people, baby ![/quote]
Exactly. Choice is good.
Unfortunately vouchers are a long shot primarily because tax payers have very little representation; in many states the vast majority of politicians represent public employee unions and not the tax payers.

ParticipantOne last question: So my new tenant moves in, and finally provides me with an initial move in inspection report that is extremely detailed. For example:
1. The outside condenser unit has rust at the bottom of the unit.
2. A bathroom ceiling light fixture has a small amount of rust stain.
And on and on…
It’s as if they went through the house with a microscope.
It just doesn’t seem right, and I think something is up.
Anyone have a similar experience?

ParticipantI’m looking at a refi through wells fargo @ 3.875% fixed FHA streamline.
The refi will add about $4000 to the balance, and I calculate a 38.1 month payoff period.
I am currently at 4.5%.
Sounds like I should still hold off?

ParticipantIn the Real World (private sector) guess what? We get evaluations annually and semi-annually (or as deemed) and there are always factors we can’t control.
Tough.
These public employee unions are destroying the country state by state, city by city.
No on Prop 30
