ParticipantUCGal your comments are only meant to stroke your own ego IMO. At the end of the day it’s all about delivering information and yes IT is a big umbrella that it sounds like you fit under.
IMO no one should call themselves an Engineer unless they fall into one of the following categories:
1. They are a gov’t licensed Engineer (EIT/FE or PE)
2. They graduated with an Engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program
3. Or a graduated from an Elite University or Institution with an engineering degree (sorry, UCSD doesn’t count as an elite university)

ParticipantAs a side note, I sold my last house in the DC area about 6 years ago – big mistake.
Unlike Temecula, the DC area RE prices have held up comparably well.
If I loose my job here in SD, I’m going back.
And there are plenty of great areas outside of the beltway – Reston is one example.
And of course things (economy, etc…) are somewhat better in the DC area, why you ask? Because the DC Area is a rotating black hole that sucks in money from the rest of the country.

ParticipantI’ll say again – Unionize IT workers and never deal with 3rd party recruiters.
Based on my experience, dealing with 3rd party recruiters is a complete waste of time.
Recruiters are like Realtors of the IT world – bottom feeders that will suck the life out of you among other things.
I’d rather stand in an unemployment line than deal with an IT recruiter.
