ParticipantI think it purely depends on your priorities.
for the price localguy got his house, he got a near 5,000 sqft home with a huge usable lot with Poway schools.
but for others, they would rather buy a near 3,000 sqft home with minimal lot in Carmel Valley for that same exact price.
for some folks that 2,000 sqft difference and the “reach out and touch my neighbor coziness” is well worth it just to have that Carmel Valley address.
But for guys like localguy, driving 25 minutes to the beach is ok if it means 2,000 sqft of additional space along with a huge flat yard with a view.
whatever floats your boat.

Participantlurker since 2004 along with Ben Jones’ blog.
didn’t get a handle until 3 years ago.
like the fact that this site is generalized on the housing front yet specific to SD. really didn’t find the superficial ways of OC to be a good place to rise kids.
save for RSF and LaJolla, found SD to be about $100k cheaper across the board to OC. also figured SD would fall a whole lot faster than OC as well. so here we are.
btw, find it very odd that SD would label places just 15 minutes from the beach “Inland” but that ended up working in our favor.

Participantbeing rather paranoid, I wanted a handle that was as nonspecific to myself as possible. I figured there’s got to be hundreds of thousands of renters in OC, they can’t possibly pin me down.
a lot of us are graduates from Ben Jones’ Jonestown. I mainly posted there and transitioned to blogging. lurked here for a while but didn’t sign up for a handle until 3 years ago.

Participantno need for Tivo anymore. and make sure you don’t pay for the lifetime Tivo price as I suspect Tivo will be gone in a few short years.
we’re using Windows media center, we bought media extenders for each TV (each extender is $100, get a good computer with decent amount of storage.) no Tivo monthly fee and you get all the benefit of Tivo and you can watch the recorded content on any TV.
