Participantwe use to rent a 1999 home, insulation was very poor, with the summer being extremely hot and winter cold.
of course, that still beats my in-laws’ home built in the 70’s. when it was in the 40’s recently their interior was also in the 40’s.
if you have a relatively new home from a respected builder who did not cut corners and cheat you on the insulation, a 45 degree night really translate into a 65 degree interior temp, which means you are just looking at the heating cost to bring 65 degree to 70 degree.
Cornerstone did a good job with Tiburon so I think the insulation issue should not be a problem for Tiburon buyers. I have my doubts about Montoro and Serenity, though.

Participant
My latest gas & electric bill was $466. I’m not in Stonebridge, but my climate is basically the same. That is with 3100 sf of living space, dual-glazed windows, all drafts sealed to the best of my ability. (I only have R11 in the attic, that could be a contributing factor and it’s on my to-do list.)
how old is your house?

Participant$500/month seems awfully high for california unless we are talking high desert areas.
and remember, good insulation can bring summer temp down by as much as 15-20 degrees and bring up winter temp by the same amount.
if Montoro and Serenity really did cheap out on the insulation, then I need to revise my analogy: Tiburon would be say an Escalade Hybrid while Montoro/Serenity would be an Yukon.

ParticipantEugene, I would defer to localguy when it comes to estimating heating and cooling cost. the true cost may surprise you.
now regarding Tiburon vs Montoro or Serenity, the big question is did the builder cut down on insulation in an effort to cut cost.
