ParticipantYou’re right, I like to watch “The Antiques Roadshow” and while I do like it when people find that their great granny’s parlor art is worth a fortune, I also kinda like it when people bring in something expecting to be told it’s a lost masterpiece only to find that it’s worthless.
They should have a show dedicated to shadenfreude! Like, “Your house ain’t worth isht”.

Participantsafigueroa12 you are right. Itemizing a mortgage deduction is nice but that happens after you’ve bought a house, put a load of money down, and payed a year’s worth of mortgage bills on a depreciating asset…
If your wife is pressuring you just tell her you’ll save $X amount (make X big) and can buy a much better, bigger dream house in a few years than you can now.
For $500k today you can live in this
Or for $200k in a few weeks you can live in this.
OK maybe it’s a slight exaggeration but you get the idea.

ParticipantI’m no expert and I deserve backlash for this comment if it is wrong but I see Palestinians as unsophisticated tools that are too easily used by greater powers (mainly Syria and Iran). Palestinians seem emotional and patriotic to whatever cause seems right at the moment. Give ’em a gun, give ’em a cause, and send them over to whomever you dislike. The Palestinians have long suffered from being used as such. They’ve got heart but really need good leadership to guide them away from being the pawns of the anti-Israeli world. The only people who profit from this conflict are weapons suppliers and war mongers.
Jordanians and Lenabese have slaughtered more Palestinians and stolen more land from the Palestinians than the Israelis but you don’t hear about this often. Who would you guess has killed the most Palestinians?
A. Israelis
B. Lebanese
C. Jordanians

Participantsafigueroa12 the tax advantages of owning are nowhere near justifying the cost of purchasing a home vs. renting it. That is an almost negligible concern unless you were planning on declaring the home a business asset on which you can claim depreciation (which you can feel sure will be major).
