I’m not surprised that you don’t want to live in a house with a back yard that faces on a busy road (that will probably get busier in the future). Maybe you’re confused, but no one ever said that CV is utopia. It’s got great educational opportunities (CCA ranks #89 in US News and WR ranking), relatively close to the beach and pretty convenient commute-wise. But there are lots of unappealing houses; these tend to have lower prices. As I said earlier, I think you are frustrated at what your budget can’t buy.
oh yeah, i’m so frustrated. i can’t afford a home here. boo hoo. looks like CV is too good for me. WAAAAA WAAAA.
Flu will be pleased. One less potential CV buyer. And just for the record – the average CV home price is about $950k. You just can’t take being average – you need a gorgeous place on a huge lot. Boo hoo..

Having resided in CV, I can understand how some who have not lived there might have the impression that CV residents might be unapproachable, but we never found that to be the case.

shhh. here’s a secret. i live in CV.
here are 3 examples of entitled baby boomer douchebaggery towards my family in CV:
“i can’t believe they are actually feeding their child macaroni and cheese” said an old pricey bitch just loud enough so that we could hear it from across our table as we were spooning in the #1 kids food ever in the history of time at a restaurant.
“i don’t think your son’s old enough to understand fashion photography” said an old humbug CV denizen passing by in the park as i was trying to take a photo of my own child for my own enjoyment using a speed light with a modifier on top to combat the harsh sun.
“…[creepily stares at us for 20 minutes without saying word]…” did a complete wierdo with his dog after walking up to the playground and sitting at a bench by himself while we played on the slides. GO ANYWHERE ELSE, LOOK AT YOUR PHONE OR WHATEVER, OR JUST SAY SOMETHING.
First of all, this just seems like an odd group of examples. What is the thesis of this three paragraph essay? Weirdos live in CV? Yup. They live everywhere.

You and spdrun should get together. You guys I am sure would get along just fine. You can probably give him advice on how to find a wife too, since somehow you succeeded where as he failed. :)
Do you want to vent your opinions or actually get info? My sense is that you are frustrated that you can’t get what you want where you want it.
Participant
having a family in a condo is like eating a bowl of nails for breakfast every day.
i like the idea of going cheaper, fixing up, and then doing private school. if only i had any patience.
update: plenty of garbage coming online in CV. or, if you prefer, there are some more “90’s tract palaces” getting listed. my lord, doth reach one’s arm out thine window and touch thy neighbor’s 90’s cardboard home.
i get the feeling Le Bourgeois in CV are in for some price reductions if they want to move product. must be a slow month for the chai knee buya
no it’s not. i do appreciate the inputs but c’mon i don’t want to sit in a car for that long everyday.
yuhtey – you seem to be in the unusual position (note sarcasm) of having to compromise. There are drawbacks to all San Diego locations. What are you willing to give in on? It’s either going to be price, location or aesthetics. For a million dollars you can get a lot more house that looks a lot more like the decorating magazines in 4S ranch than you can in CV, but there is the convenience factor, mello roos, etc. Everybody recognizes many of the factors that you mention (I’ll leave aside the man-buns and related comments). You realize that you’re not the first to recognize all of these things, right?

A prestigious school of public policy named after an awoved racist is just bad policy and bad reputation.
An even more egregious example: What should England do about things named for Winston Churchill? Without Churchill, most of England would currently be speaking German. (Ok, you can debate that, but his contribution to keeping morale in England up during WWII is not really debatable)
But Churchill, like many of English politicians of the early years of the 20th century was extraordinarily racist. His attitudes towards the “natives” in India and to Mahatma Gandi are shocking.
And what about Thomas Jefferson who kept slaves? (And fathered children with Sally Hemings) Oh, and let’s not forget George Washington who also owned slaves!
The history of racism and man’s inhumanity to his fellow man is long and extensive. If we rename everything named after anyone who at some time held a view we don’t agree with today, we’re gonna need a lot of names.
And what about the states of Maryland and Virginia – named for women who were no doubt bigoted and held positions only due to their heritage.
Imagine the work that would get done if all of this pent up anger was used to actually do something tangible (not violent, constructive). It’s a shame – words, words, words.

Everyone claims that the dogs are service animals – but according to the ADA, store owners are not allowed to require proof that the animal is a service animal http://www.ada.gov/archive/qasrvc.htm
You can apparently get a certificate online in some states saying that your animal is a service animal, without any proof.
Overall, I am in favor of genuine service animals being permitted to assist people who need their help. But there has to be some consideration of the potential for abuse and also the issue of allergies and fears among the general population.
I noticed when I put a rental ad up that said “pets considered, please describe” about 50% of people with dogs, maybe even more than this, described them as “service animals.”
It is pretty said so many people selfishly take advantage of rules designed to protect the disabled. The owners of the fake “service animals” might as well park in handicapped spots and stick their hand into and grab out money from donation jars in stores.
I think there should be certification and a pet tag required. That way the store owner only has to look at the tag. You have to get a hang tag for your car if you want to park in the handicapped parking spaces, and that requires a doctor’s authorization. I don’t know why this is any different.

Participant

I have a new theory;
As the amount of loyalty in society generally decreases, the value of dogs increases proportionately.
Dog love is a panicked response to the fraying of loyalty in society.
I think there’s some truth to this. Human relationships have been suffering. Families are now expected to separate, even to the point of labeling people as weird or unhealthy if they still live at home in adulthood. We ship kids off at the age of 5 so they can learn to “socialize” in state institutions instead of socializing naturally with family, friends, and neighbors as humans have done throughout history. Add technology to the mix, and it’s all downhill from there.
Again – I really like dogs, but my husband is allergic, so we are dogless. I am completely confused by the recent elevation of dogs to the status of children (even the commercials refer to pet owners as pet parents). Dogs give lots of love but require next to nothing in return, and sometimes I think people like that.

I’d watch out though … with recent news out of North Korea, it seems that Kim Jong Eun(uch) may release some dogs with frickin’ laser beams on the US population.
Dog bite in store equals big liability potentially.
I love animals, but ours were always happy to hang out at home when we went to the grocery store . . .

Participant
If GWB did not invade Iraq to find non existent WMDs, this day would have been avoided.
Sadly the architects of that strategy are still advising many presidential candidates and version 3.0 of that team is coming to to “keep America safe” soon.
Hmm – you could also say that if Saddam Hussein had never invaded Kuwait there would have been no need for a truce allowing inspections for WMD (that Hussein later decided not to honor because he didn’t want Iran to know that he didn’t have them).
Perhaps we shouldn’t have intervened in Kuwait? And so on and so on. The middle east has been in a state of unrest forever. I think Trump’s wall should be built around that area.
