Carmel Valley has a large Asian population and it is more expensive than PQ. The difference is that the Asians in MM are mainly blue collar Asians (or young professionals) as opposed to the Asians in Carmel Valley who are mostly professionals.

Probably because there are less Asians in PQ than MM
ninaprincessParticipantCarmel Valley has a large Asian population and it is more expensive than PQ. I am also interested in North-West Mira Mesa. Currently I have no kid but planning to have one soon. Good schools are also important to me. MM elementary schools have API ranging from 870 to 920 and HS at 823 which is not too bad. I am working on Coronado island so Mira Mesa is a little bit closer.
One thing that concerns me is the property crime in MM. I have heard of a few break-ins in the last two years. One of my friend felt sick at work and when she came home early she found two men moving her stuffs out to a truck. The two men saw her and drove away with her stuffs in their truck. my friend is really nervous and thinking about moving.
At your budget you will find a little nicer/newer/larger homes in Mira Mesa than in PQ, from what I can see (I am also looking in both MM and PQ). Mira Mesa schools have become very good, many of them better actually than University City ones. The API scores are now close enough to the PQ ones.
North-West Mira Mesa around Calle Cristobal is especially nice area. It all depends what you want. Where do you have to commute to work? Do you have school-age kids?
ninaprincessParticipantHi All,
Here are the dimensions of the kitchen and bathroom
Kitchen– 15 x 12 (completely new with new tiles)
Bathroom 1– 6 x 8 (keep toilet and bath tub (resurface?), new cabinet/sink/granite top, new tiles)
Bathroom 2– 7 x 9 (keep toilet and bath tub (resurface?), new cabinet/sink/granite top, new tiles)Here are my estimates based on your recommendations and some research:
Kitchen– $17k (including appliances)
bathroom 1– $4k
bathroom 2– $4kDo you think these numbers are reasonable? I think $25k is all we could afford.
