NicoleParticipantthank-you both for your response.
So, regarding renting before selling their home. My mother-in-law is currently living with us (helping with the baby) and father-in-law is back in Ohio. By the time they plan on moving out here my mother-in-law will have already lived here well over a year. Do you think the conventional wisdom about renting a year still stands?
Thanks sdrealtor for your suggestions regarding possible retirement communities. I went on line to check out the Ocean Hills community and it looks great. I couldn’t find any on sdlookup that are for sale, so I’m not sure what the price range is. I did however see some single story detached places for sale not too far from that community. Is this area considered “Vista South” or “oceanside” Regarding the community right next to us in Encinitas, I think most of the units are a bit dated for them but we will keep them in mind.
I know it’s a long way away, but our plan is to help them afford he place, so that eventually my husband and I will have a retirement place ourselves that will be paid off well before the time we’re looking to retire.

NicoleParticipantI said that they’d like something “new” but I really meant not a fixer.
