Resource monitor says my memory is working at about 50% but my hard drive seams to be running around 90%, hard drive light is on almost all the time, have kept it clean and defragmented, it’s getting a little full with only about 15% left. Tried to add more with disk management but it would not allow me to increase, only shrink volume. My stupid HP recovery manager does not work so maybe i’ll delete the recovery partition to get more space, or go buy a bigger hard drive.
moneymakerParticipantCAR I think like you do, recently reaffiliated my party registration but will not vote party line…ever!
moneymakerParticipantIf there was a pill to cause aging to be cut in half? i.e. you could live twice as long if you started taking it as an infant, would it be a good thing? If women could reproduce into their 70’s and 80’s would it cause the earth to over populate sooner? So if I’m 50 and would have lived to 100 without the pill, but with it could live to 150, would I want to? I think as long as the answer is “yes” then one is still alive and life is worth living, if one does not want to take the pill then one foot is already in the grave.
moneymakerParticipantIn one of Obama’s speeches the other day, he said he was amazed at how the Chinese government could build something (anything really) so fast. I’m not sure if they have red tape like we do, but somewhere they probably have committees that meet to decide such things as well. You could just sense how envious the President was that the Chinese could make a decision and have whatever it was built in a year or less.
“It’s a wondeful life” is on NBC right now, one of my favorite movies.moneymakerParticipantRead in the paper that for the average house (or was it mean?) in San Diego, anyway the household income would have to be 101K, problem is the average income is more like 63K.
moneymakerParticipantMaybe somebody bought it sight unseen, had it inspected, tried to dump it, then is trying to flip it, total guess on my part, or maybe I’m just watching too much flip or flop TV.

What is the average life of a fridge anyway, anybody know?
moneymakerParticipantI think the analogy is appropriate, perhaps too deep, in my thinking the order does not really matter. Wether the employer hired illegals to replace or hired them in the beginning makes no difference. Lets say the company that just layed off 6000 workers suddenly sees the economy improving don’t you think it might be prudent to hire contract labor in case the economy suddenly takes a nose dive again. So let’s say you’re significant other is no longer meeting your needs, do you just dump them? I’m currently employed but I can see the direction of the labor market and it’s not rosy, average job kept is like 4.4 years and among the younger workers it is much shorter.
moneymakerParticipantI bought a toaster oven at GTM, along with a garden nozzle and coffee. All at about half price.
moneymakerParticipantFree will exists currently, it may not in the future, once everybody is on prozac, free will will be abolished. Time travel is impossible, as is traveling through a worm hole unscathed, everything is ripped apart at the atomic level when traveling through a worm hole. It is a window to another universe but I would not recommend going through it any more than a regular window. The only way to make a successful trip to another planet is to have “star drive” i.e. a fusion engine. We had better take care of the one planet we have as I don’t think we will have any other planet to colonize in the near future.

So if bought for 500k and sold for 400k then you both share a loss of 10k each. Now after 5 years your principal is 460k, subtract out 80k which leaves 20k,so wife owes you 10k. P.S.- I’m still in my first marriage so what do I know!
Where’s the other $80k going to come from?
My mistake the principal should be $360k after 5 years, if sold for $400k,subtract out the $80k,which leaves $320k, add back in the $20k that both parties need to bring to the table and you are back at $360k which will pay off the principal.
moneymakerParticipant“If I were a rich man” I would show off my wealth with well maintained grass. Isn’t that how the whole grass thing started anyway? During feudal times a land owner would plant grass instead of food plants just to show that he didn’t need to. When times are tough for a company then I totally understand it, it is just not a good thing to lay off people to maximize profits in my opinion. Replacing unions with contract labor and legal workers with illegal is just taking us one more step closer to “soylent green”.
moneymakerParticipant
They would qualify for subsidized health care if they have 2 kids. (I think subsidies start at 67k for a couple… so 60k for a family would qualify.) Probably qualify for subsidy (premium assistance) as well as cost sharing silver plan. I’m guessing insurance would be about $250 with subsidies.
I’ll take a swag at their budget:
Rent on a 2 bedroom apt – kids can share a room. I have a classmate who’s renting a 2br off of Reynard in Mission hills – she and her roommates pay $900 total.
“Utilities – no cable (that’s an extra), ting or other discounted no contract cell phones – $50/month for 2 phones. SDGE bill average $50/month (small apartment, gas heater, no pool, etc.) Landlord pays water.” -$50 per phone?
We’re at $1250 a month.
“Food – if you eat a decent amount of beans, rice, lower cost meats (chicken wings/drumsticks vs steak) – you could easily feed a family of 4 on $500/month.”- I’d say $600
Clothing. You can shop at target, thrift stores, sears… You can probably average about $150/month on clothes. That may be a high estimate – I average about that because I hate shopping.
“Savings: Lets assume they put in 5% to a 401k (to get a match). $250/month”-$300 might be more realistic
We’re at $2150/month out of a $5k budget.
Bus passes for the parents – $72/month * 2. $144 month.
Or if they have cars – lets hope they have paid for beaters – $500/year liability only insurance, $100 month gas. Lets add another $150 towards maintenance/replacement fund… round up – we’ll call it $300/month.
“Still have money left to pay taxes. They’ll be in the 15% tax bucket (or lower) Lets call it an effective tax rate of 10%. $500/month”- Let’s be real and say effective state/fed rate of 24.3%=$1215
That’s $2950/month out of $5k month for a rental.
If they don’t go to starbucks, eat out, etc… they can save $2k/month towards their home. When they purchase they’ll have 2900 available towards housing. But as owners of a condo – they have mortgage, HOA, probably larger utilities, etc.
I know folks who make it on $60k with a little extra to spare… but they don’t buy large house, don’t have new cars, don’t spend on stuff like new books (vs library), or eat out a lot.
What about child care, diapers, over the counter medicine? Heaven forbid they have to hire someone to fix something or get a traffic ticket turning on a red light without coming to a full stop.moneymakerParticipantI think the fair thing would be to recognize that the asset has deprecited 20%, hence so has your down payment.
