I think a better question than “are savers doomed?” is “are 401K’s doomed?”. As with government there are 3 basic checks and balances, stocks, bonds, commodities. Problem with 401k’s is you can only invest in stocks or bonds, so when the market in over valued and interest rates start climbing you are screwed as an investor with no where to turn. The rich can invest in gold/silver but the little guy will get squeezed as the proverbial turnip.
moneymakerParticipantNew record hit, now at 2.42%
moneymakerParticipantRemember a couple years ago how the fuel cell was going to revolutionize everything. Seems like all these big ideas never really get going. Have to disagree with you spdrun on the taxing gasoline to encourage alternatives, it is just inherently wrong to tax something to encourage the opposite. I know it is done I’m just saying I don’t like it any more than all the other unconstitutional laws we have on the books that will never get repealed. Does the term “tea tax” ring a bell.
moneymakerParticipantThank You Mayze , I really loved the virtual tour. Unfortunately I also just realized that Uncle Sam would want some tax money and that’s the part I wouldn’t be able to afford.
moneymakerParticipantI don’t think savers are doomed. It’s not about interest rates or deflation alone, it’s all about purchasing power for the savers, which is ironic since by definition they aren’t spending.
moneymakerParticipantAre we going to get a new record low on the 30 year? 2.55 now
…2.53%
…2.52moneymakerParticipant12 years ago I bought a car that used diesel which was 50¢ a gallon cheaper and gets 40-45 MPG. Now fast forward, diesel is 50¢ a gallon more, not complaining just saying the market has a way to squeeze you a little more down the road.
moneymakerParticipantI’m guessing it’s plastic as well. It’s just amazing how much plastic goes into the engine compartment these days.
moneymakerParticipantMy dad used to heat stuck stuff up with a torch and low and behold out it came. I don’t remember wether he heated the bolts or the thing the bolt was attached to but it sure worked for him. Never tried it myself, I would probably accidently weld the two things together with my luck. Now a lot of engines are made with aluminum alloys so don’t know if it is a good thing to try.

I’m not sure why it hasn’t. Even though the jobs numbers look good, I’m pretty sure those jobs are on average lower paying than the jobs that were lost. If you read Rich’s article in the top right “This Chart Pretty Much Sums It Up” it is pretty obvious that there has to be a correction of sorts at some point. I’m better off this year than I was the year before, after I do my taxes I’ll feel better after taking the tax write off for solar.
moneymakerParticipantWhy did you need to remove the pulley to begin with flu?
When I was fresh out of college my transmission went bad on my Toyota station wagon, so I took it in after opening the drain pan and closing it back up. They told me I needed a new transmission for like $800 or so, so I said go ahead. After getting it back I later (like almost a year later) checked the drain pan and found the same filter with a tear in it inside. I wanted to sue but then thought I had agreed to the price and it was working (kept working til I sold it many years later), still feel like I was lied to and cheated though.
moneymakerParticipantImpact tools are what the pros use i believe, just need room to get them in there. Reminds me of when I replaced my torque converter last year, luckily however I did not run into something like this. The front drive axles did however use similar bolts.

moneymakerParticipantMaking money legally is a good way to stay out of jail, that’s reason enough for me. Never been there and not sure if I want to add the experience to my bucket list yet.
