ParticipantGreat information! And why I do not want a condo- sure the maintenance is addressed but headaches and risks just not worth it. And true- the issue with southern california is lack of mid-priced SFH properties. I see the big 2-10 million dollar homes and the crappy 500k condos in San Diego and not much in between. Its as bad as New York and San Francisco.

ParticipantI see a lot of broke poor people and average income does not support current inflated real estate prices in San Diego. I think prices will drop for 2 more years.

I am banking up cash for the down payment as the real estate comes back to earth here in San Diego. Heck, in 2-3 years, I will be able to actually buy me a nice place in PB, OB, Point Loma, Del Mar or Carlsbad areas. Not a palace but a modest 2-3 bedroom townhome with 1500-2000 square feet and a 2 car garage and small yard and some views.

ParticipantI disagree about engineer salaries as well. I know several licensed P.E. civil and electrical engineers who make about 100k a year with a decade of experience. Unless the engineer is a VP or senior level manager, he/she will not be making anywhere close to 150k in San Diego. I know because I see job salary postings all the time on engineer/technical boards. So where are you getting your incorrect salary details from? And yes, San Diego real estate still has a LONG way to drop before professionals can afford a decent home here compared to most places in the USA. Heck, even places in Florida are way cheaper for beach property. In spite of hurricanes, bugs, snakes and humidity, one can get ocean front property in Florida for half cost of San Diego coastal property.
