Participantyou don’t need to hug trees to know that big cars pollute more and oil is running out. If you are so conscious about other environmental contributions, then why not take it one step further.
You know, you environmentalist types would have more credibility if you didn’t speak in half truths all the time.
Yes, big cars pollute more. However oil is NOT running out. There is plenty of oil in the ground that we refuse to drill for. We’d rather fight wars in the desert than drill off the coast.
However, I do agree that it would be nice if we had a coherent and forward thinking energy policy in this country that weaned us off of unrenewable energy sources.
However, for all of you Bush Bashers/Haters who desperately want a Democrat in office let me ask you: what exactly did Billary do about energy policy during their 8 years in office and why do you expect that another 4 or 8 years will be any different?
Hell, even Mr Global Warming himself did next to nothing during his 8 years as Vice President about energy policy.
But I digress.
Unfortunately, I can’t afford payments on two cars and as I stated above, I actually NEED a truck for…you know…truck stuff. However, if you are so concerned about the pending global cataclysm feel free to buy me a hybrid.
In the meantime, I’ll drive less and telecommute more.

Participant“Wow! Don’t Californians get testy when someone challenges/comments on their car choice. Yowza.”
I get testy when someone makes a blanket statement that SUV/Truck owners are all “idiots” and “morons”.

ParticipantGood lord, what bunch of birkenstock wearing tree huggers.
I own a ford F150. I actually USE it for, you know, hauling stuff to the dump or home from Home Depot.
I can’t really do any of that in a Prius or an Accord.
However, I recycle virtually everything possible, I compost yard waste and kitchen scraps, I drink filtered tap water. I make my own damn coffee at home and I have an organic garden in my back yard.
How many of you big car haters actually live your life you way you’d insist others do?

Participant“The top financial obstacles people listed were, in order: the rising cost of living, health insurance or medical expenses, mortgage payments, debt, and fuel and energy costs.”
None of these really apply to my brother who just turned 57.
He was out of work for 6 weeks over christmas due to a back injury, he’s declared bankruptcy in the last few years because he owed about $40k in CC debt he had no hope of ever repaying.
But somehow he thought it was a good idea to buy not one but TWO flatscreen tv’s in the last few months (one for the bedroom and one for the living room). Wants to get himself a blueray player next and he needs a new entertainment center as his new flatscreen is sitting ghetto style on TOP of his current entertainment center with the old tv still in it.
That and he’s been sinking ever larger amounts of money into his coffee addiction for multiple espresso machines, coffee grinders and drip coffee makers, as well as outfitting himself with and ever growing roasting setup. But he’ll tell you he’s saving money on coffee.
Oh, and he has $0 in the bank, doesn’t own anything (except a 10 year old car that needs to be replaced) and has no pension–nada.
