ParticipantAnything that I would have driven to Parkway for in El Cajon I’ll now drive to fashion valley or UTC for. Since I live in Allied Gardens, El Cajon is about equidistant as UTC. Even if UTC is slightly higher, I’ll pay an extra buck in gas to save 10’s or hundreds of dollars in sales tax.

Also CA should pass a law, that all purchases made on the internet shipped to CA is taxed with the state sales tax rate.
There already IS a law that you are voluntarily supposed to pay sales tax in internet purchases that aren’t taxed.
When my accountant mentioned this to me I laughed at him and he said, “Yeah, I know…but I’m supposed to tell you.” Sorry, I’m not going to keep track of stuff I buy online and then voluntarily cough up another couple thousand in sales tax to the state. And raising the sales tax to 8.5, 9 or 10% is going to make me LESS likely to do so and MORE likely to buy more and more stuff online from out of state.
I think the graph posted above should give everyone pause. The state has fully doubled state spending in the last 10 years with property taxes at an all time high and it STILL managed to spend WAYYYYYY more than it had. Seems that the government is getting a little too fat for its own good. Hell, I can telecommute to my job; if they think they can keep raising taxes higher and higher and cut services more and more and we are just going to keep bending over to take it, they have another thing coming. Won’t take much for me to take all my earning and spending and just move it out of CA.

I’ll only donate through bonafide charity channels. If someone wants help they can go through those channels. I learned along time ago that many people ‘needing help’ are just trying to scam you, no matter how sincere or persistent they are.
One experience stands out in my mind. I was at a gas station on miramar back in the 90’s in my beat up VW van. At the time, I always carried a 2 gallon can of gas in the back that I kept full. A scruffy looking guy came up to me asking for some money for gas, waving around this tiny gas can and giving me some sob story about how he was traveling to see his sister and was almost there but ran out of gas–his car was a couple of miles down the road and he needed enough gas to get to her house which was about 20 miles away.
I said “No problem, hop in. I have a full 2 gallon can in the back and I’ll be happy to drive you back to your car.” At that point the guy hemmed and hawed and said, “No thanks, I just want the money.”
It’s really sad that there are so many low lifes out there that have to take advantage of others compassion….

Participant
I do not involve myself with requests like this. I think people who are really in need should seek help from the missions etc. We should in turn help out the charitable organizations. Handing help directly to people you don’t even know is not a prudent thing to do.
+1
I also think that based on the poorly composed post (lack of punctuation, spelling and grammar) that we should send our donations to her school rather than to her family as clearly they need it more.
