ParticipantAs a Gen-X attorney, the problem with the fed and CA legislatures are that too many of them are liberal, baby-boomer attorneys who can’t balance their own check book, let alone the peoples’ checkbook. What we need are CPAs in Congress!
More significant, this has always been identified as a problem with democracy . . . pass the fiscal pain down to the next generation. We are literally spending ourselves into oblivion–whether it is social security, medicare, prescription drugs, calls for a national healthcare system, education, or infrastructure and social spending. The war, you ask? A drop in the bucket. That is why I laugh at calls for a national healthcare plan . . . at this rate, it will last a few years and then will plumet into insolvency like the other programs.
I’d vote for a dictatorship of bean-counting CPAs over both parties. They have mortgaged the future for generations to come. We now have a subprime government.

ParticipantFunny, article. (Yep, and Al Gore was a historical lock to win the presidency, as well.)
If the Democrats had selected Hillary (or if B.O. picks her as VIP), then absolutely yes.
However, selecting one of the nation’s most liberal US senators . . . again . . . not a good strategy. Thrown in his youth, inexperience, connection with shady Chicago politicians and questionable pastors, the Republic spin machine will have a field day. Does anyone remember the swiftboat show?
Yes, this might be a landslide, but in favor of McCain.
If the Dem’s ever picked a new Democrat again (like Bill Clinton or Even Bayh) instead of these elite, quasi-socialist liberals, they could stop snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.
How many more ultra-liberals are they going to put up before they learn? It’s like groundhog day, except with Obama instead of Kerry.
Again, not taking a partisan stand here (believe it or not), but Democrats seem like they are in denial every time they pick a candidate. This may play well in D.C., S.F. or N.Y., but it is not going to play well in the swing states.
Sorry, facts of life.
Good luck on this one, Marion . . . but don’t be too surprised to wake up with a McCain/Romney as your Prez and VIP.

ParticipantEqualizer, a good point about women driving SUVs, making the fatalities proportionally less for SUVs.
The edmunds.com article on the 2005 fatalities ony discussed trucks and young males. Likely, there is no way for us on this board to control and factor in driver characteristics as a percentage of drivers of certain vehicles leading to more or less fatalities.
Thanks for the insightful comments, unlike the OP (from my perspective).
I guess I’ll just take my chances in my large American Sedan.
