ParticipantThere’s still an awful lot of job losses to work through, and many have lost a bundle on the stock markets this year, so I don’t think we’re that close. Even if we reach a bottom of sorts, you’ll have plenty of time to snuff out the house you want, there’s nothing to indicate that we’ll have a quick turnaround into positive appreciation.

ParticipantIt is fascinating to read about this stuff, do you guys have some suggestions for someone looking to get into investing? So far I’m just trying to work around the limitations of my 401(k) to try to keep some of the value, but I’m itching to get into trading stocks myself.
What’s a good starter book, and what brokerage should I start with (heard some bad vibes about Etrade around the net but people seem to like TD Ameritrade)?
Six figure investments? I can only dream about getting to that point!

Participant
According to this article it would seem that the auctions for Lehman Brothers have already happened

says that the Wamu cash settlement auction is on Oct 23.
Aye, the auction took place already, but the final settlement is not until next week, on the 20th or 21st. That is when those owing must actually pay up. However, the more I read, the more it seems that so many holders were both sellers and buyers of Lehman CDSs, that the majority of money actually trading hands is closer to the $6 billion range. This may yet be a non-issue, but that remains to be seen.
