ParticipantWow. I’d have to say this thread has been hijacked.
The “life is only about my own mind and body and the stories I can tell about it” approach is kinda depressing to me.
If you do good for someone else, true, *you* can only experience your perception of your good work, but in fact, if you really helped that person, then their life is changed and you have indeed affected something external to yourself.
Over the course of a life you may be able to affect many many others positively…
I guess that would be one strategy for a life.
Another might be pure hedonism. Why not.
Equally valid approaches I guess. Although given we live in an interconnected society, I guess some approaches are more beneficial to the “tribe” than others…

As Chris Rock has pointed out: “A man is only as faithful as his opportunities.” It’s when a man tries to deny this fundamental truth that he gets himself into trouble.[/quote]There is such a thing as self restraint. Rock’s comment doesn’t seem to allow for that.

ParticipantNot all children of divorce see their dads 4-6 days a month. I would say that is (or was) an exception.

ParticipantPretty good analysis/advice davelj. I would only add that it’s probably not strictly prostitution per se for Elin – she probably does put value on an outcome that keeps the family together.
Now, if that outcome is just completely unlikely, or completely unlikely with all parties happy for the mid/long term, then yeah I guess she should cut bait.
But I guess, is there really a hurry? Does she have to blow up her family right now just to please us? Seems like she could give it a few months to see if there is *any* possibility of salvaging the thing. Which I think there may not be…
