The fact is higher taxes will drive businesses away. No businesses = no college students. If all your fee paying students leave, the gov’t will just continue giving you grants? For what, your socialist slant and defense of anything anti-Bush?

No, higher taxes will drive *marginal* businesses away. Like the ones that are already committing tax and employment fraud. The ones that remain will thrive when they don’t have to compete with the crooks.

Rich people and small businesses pay more taxes than anyone. I won’t argue with you on immigration but it is one cause for raising taxes. So why raise them and subsidize those living off the system? Your arguments are laughable.

Rich people and small businesses write-off more taxes than anyone. They also hire more undocumented workers than anyone and leave the rest of us to support them via the taxes we *do* pay.Raising sales taxes is the only way to *force* individuals and businesses employing illegal labor to at least cover some of the social costs of illegal aliens.

No one defending higher taxes has offered any explanation as to why this is GOOD for CA’s economy.

See above. Taxation is one of the few methods to manage the fraud associated with capitalism and the free market.
It balances the budget – for what? a year? Then what?
Yes, for the year. Then its time for a new budget. That’s how budgets work, you know.

ParticipantUh, how does ‘faster’ equal ‘worse’?
I would assume if we deteriorate faster we can recover faster, correct?
Home prices and the stock market can only go to zero, I assume?

You can pay the illegals all the money in the world. No matter what you pay, they will send it back to Mexico. They are a drain, but not because they are “underpaid”.
No, they are a drain because their income is not being taxed! And they and their employers are enjoying the same ‘benefits’ of living in CA that the rest of us that pay into the system do. And that is thievery, pure and simple. It’s not surprising you don’t appreciate this. Few do.

I love this state. I am a Producer. For the first time I am actually thinking about leaving.
