ParticipantI favor the German cars over the Japanese as they tend to be more fun to drive. Infiniti may be the exception – it drives very peppy.
My ranking:
328 – Audi 5 – G37 – C300.kcal09

Participant
My situation, no debts, mortgages, loans or any other commitments, single, no kids.
Work in IT (Sr. Java) with a decade+ of experience. Got laid off 2 wks ago in a brand new job I started, was there just for a month and the company had financial troubles from decreasing revenues..hmm.
Thinking of taking a year off, 6 months traveling middle east/africa/s.e. asia and 6 months in spanish language school as i’ve always wanted to work on my spanish to gain fluency.
Do have savings to tide me over when I get back.
Wow, nice! Go for it-it will be great experience.

Participant
I liked the smallest model of these homes – 2,077 sf. If they came down to the high $300k – low $400k range in the La Mesa school district side of the development (vs. Spring Valley), I’d consider buying one.
Think it’ll happen?
I doubt that they will drop that much unless the economy turns south again. My predication is that they are close to bottom as San Diego still is an attractive place to live.

Participant
Santaluz is way overpriced. It’s not even at 2003 pricing yet. Compared with its direct competitors Del Sur to the north and Park Village to the south, it’s a lot more expensive, but you don’t get that much more for your money.
Losing 20% over 2 years is not out of the realm of possibility.Of all the high-end communities in North County, Santaluz is the one most likely to experience a crash landing. This crash landing is already in progress:

I can’t say much about the segment your friend is looking in … it all depends on viability of the market for $2.25m tract houses without land & far from the ocean. I would’ve sincerely doubted that such a market exists, but your friend is a counterexample. Why is he interested in Crosby instead of, say, this:

2 years laater your prediction has come true-20% decline and still counting….
