Participant“That is our model, not the Soviet Union to Russia collapse.”
I’d like to believe we have more time as well but I don’t you are making a valid comparison there. 150 years ago there wasn’t a mass media with the instant reach that exists now. Even 15 years ago was different because the internet did not exist. I think we are reaping some the side effects of improvement in communications over the past several decades. This blog wasn’t possible as little as 13 yrs ago. What does that tell you?JWM in SD
Participant“I find it odd that avowed bear market gamblers can offer any complaints about “risk loves”.”
What the hell does that mean?? Are you talking about my bet on CFC? Well, I gambled with what I was willing to lose. In fact, I lost 2/3 of the value of it before CFC suddently got into trouble. Don’t lecture me about being a bear market gambler. I am not going out and using margin to bet against the market in general.

ParticipantI’m not just talking about savings accounts FLU. The policies of the Fed and the Govt have pushed otherwise conservative investors towards increasingly risky alternatives since the interest rates have been so low. Like it or not, equities are going to crash eventually as well as the dollar. It is just a matter of time until it happens. I don’t even think diversification will protect against what is coming down the road.

ParticipantNice job Partypup. This is something I’ve been trying to get people to understand: Hyperinflation will not save you unless it makes it into your wages!!! Even then, there are severe side effects.
I hate to say it but Partypup is probably correct. I was willing to give the Fed the benefit of the doubt prior to Tuesday. Not anymore.
People, there is a War on Savers being waged right now. The front line of that war is the housing market in bubble locales.

ParticipantOh yes, but everyone is going to get a CLI bump of 5 to 10% a year so that wages will “catch up”.
Yeah, right….pushing on a string….

ParticipantBsharma,
I think the reality lies somewhere in the middle of the two extremes…or at least I hope so. That being said, I’m still proceeding with diversifying all cash between USD and foreign currency holdings. Now if Everbank would just hurry the F up already and get my accounts fully functioning!!!

ParticipantYeah Bugs, this is what I have been worrying about in the past several months. I made the wrong call on the Fed protecting the dollar and now have something else to be concerned with…how to protect my money in light of the fact that I earn compensation denominated in USD. House Prices are the least of my concerns right now…the very least.

Participant“But JWM says, no hyper- inflation!”
The house becomes affordable but everything else doesn’t and gets worse unless it makes it into your wages. The key is the wages and holding a job in that environment. That is the problem with HI scenario. You have to look at all dimensions not just the asset price side.

Participant“A single person could save 75k per year easily and a small family could save 50K or more. I can sympathize if there are alimony issues and issues like…”
Rustico are f*cking kidding me??? $75K a year???!!!! Can you do math or not man? That is $6,250 per month!!!
My wife and I have a combined income of over 230K and we save a lot, but I can tell that we could not put away that much money consistently each month.

ParticipantSorry cricket but this is yet another example of someone who didn’t read the primer first…if they had they would not be asking about overpriced condos. Unfortunately, some people have to touch the hot stove before they learn.
