I’m a fence sitter. We have good credit and some $$$. We don’t want to go in over our heads and be mortgage slaves, but we have certain criteria that would push us over our comfort level, so we’re waiting so as to not have to compromise too much. I’m being thanked now for not buying 2 to 3 years ago, but that was a problem, pressured to buy. Not so easy to wait for the right one, but I’m sure it will be worth it.
jpinpbParticipantAt least in Manhattan you have a pretty good chance of making real money to pay for the co-op.

jpinpbParticipantWe’re talking too many years ago when I was a kid and for a short while lived in Onterrible. The only thing I remember very well is the smog and in the summer smog alerts – meaning if you have any kind of asthma, you should avoid being outside. I remember the winters being able to see Mt. Baldy and in the summer just seeing gray air w/no sign that mountains were even there.
From what I remember, Claremont was a nice area. Of course, that was so long ago. Things can change. Pomona back probably before I was born was supposed to be very nice. When I was a kid, it was to be avoided completely, dangerous, very bad.
Upland is supposed to be nice, also Alta Loma. I think generally the closer you are to the mountains, the better.
The traffic on the 10 or the 60 is brutal and makes the 15 look like a picnic. Can’t stress enough, probably many others will agree. Rent there first. Best way to find out about the area.

jpinpbParticipantHaving been a renter there for many years, I can say it is a fun place to visit for sure. Spending a million dollars for a row home to live there, well, I don’t do drugs, so unless unknowingly someone injects me w/some pretty strong narcotics, I’m not crazy enough to do it.
It has potential to be a great place. Just like many downtrodden neighborhoods they try to revitalize. The only difference between City Heights and P.B. is the lure of the beach. Is it worth a million dollar price tag? When you can go up the coast for the same price?
The element in P.B. is dangerous, especially at night. I have seen it progressively get worse over the past 20 years. Is there a chance for improvement any time soon? Do you think the City has funds to clean it up?
Talk to some cops that work the beat. They’ll give you the straight scoop.
